Do you use E-cigarettes in the park?

THAT would be a big slippery slope IMO. Would diet soft drinks also be taxed? At the same or a lower rate? What about dark chocolate which apparently is actually good for you? (In limited quantities of course.) And so on.

I hope that sin taxes go the way of the dodo bird.

Diet sodas are as bad as the real thing, healthwise.

Nothing more than a drug delivery system for a high addictive drug. Its not healthy, its just not as unhealthy as igniting and inhaling a tobacco cigarette. Only one person within this thread referred to this product for what it is actually is -a drug delivery system. Lots of product marketing claims contained within this thread, which are unsupported. At the same time I hope it does help people who want to quit smoking and move to a healthier life style.

Transfats and high fructose corn syrup are highly addictive, dangerous drugs too. Are Twinkies nothing more than drug delivery systems too?

A big differece is the ability to get different levels of nicotine to put into the atomizer- high, medium, and low. This enables those who smoke to cut back while still being able to get the satisfaction of holding the cigarette and smoking. There's even a non nicotine refill people can use if they still want to smoke but don't want any nicotine.

I worked for Coke for almost 4 years. All sodas are bad. Diet sweeteners can actually make you crave more food, among other things.

I've read some truly frightening things about aspartame.

But I'm getting way off topic now...

can someone tell me which brand feels close to a cigarette as in length and weight? I really want to buy a starter kit for DH and but I know he will really want it to be like the real thing. From looking at them online, it is hard to tell.

I'm going to try one too :) I'm an ex-smoker and have been waiting for the day something like this came along, because I liked the habit of it more than anything else. Lucky for me I won't need the nicotine. You can get them nicotine free right?

Wouldn't it be fantastic if these caught on, real cigs went away, and there was no debate at all? It would be just another thing someone has in their mouth, like people who chew on pens, or gum, etc....

I bought my husband Intellicig-usa brand . It's quite realistic in size and shape. I think being that it is so much like the real thing, it made it easier for him to stick with it and then slowly stepped down in nicotine levels until he didn't have the need for nicotine any longer and doesn't use it anymore.
The other thing about the e-cigs is the fact that it gives the smoker the hand to mouth habit that they are used to. That's something the patches and gums can't do.

thanks! I think we might go to a tobacco store today and see if they have them. How long to the cartridges last? Do you smoke one and toss it then another one or do they last longer than that?

I understand that. It works well for me to stick to diet drinks, as a lot of past weight loss has shown, but that might be all in my head. What you believe can be important too. :)

But it's true that this is way off topic. Sorry!

The cartridges can last for days or a week. It just depends on how heavy of a smoker you are. My husband could go several days on one cartridge.
My friend who is a very heavy smoker would go through one cartridge just about every day. I bought my husband a starter set which was the atomizer, battery, starter cartridges and charger. I bought a few extra packages of cartridges for him and by the time he had quit smoking a few months later, he still had some cartridges left.

BTW: I bought directly from the intellicig-usa website. They were extremely fast in shipping, prices are reasonable and very reliable.
I would recommend them

If you have every attempted to quick smoking, you would know that a large population of smokers are not able to quit cold turkey. It's a physical addiction that has been in their system for years. Sometimes the safest way to quit is to gradually decrease the nicotine that is going into your system.....which is just what the patch does. The e-cig provides the physical movements of smoking, which is what alot of people (like myself) because habitually addicted to. People who choose the e-cig are generally NOT people who are just starting a smoking habit-they are people who have been smoking regular cigarettes for many years. Whether they are using the e-cig to quit or just to replace, they are still moving toward a healthier lifestyle (and healthier atmosphere for you!) either way. I applaud all e-cig smokers for smoking toward that healthier lifestyle.

I think it's weird that people knock smokers so much, but no one seems to knock the ghastly unhealthy eating habits of people in the parks. Obesity is just as much of a serious and unhealthy issue as smoking & obesity actually does sometimes affect those others around them. Being squished on a bus seat because the obese person next to them cannot fit properly in their seat, body odor that often occurs with larger people who have trouble reaching those spots when washing or sweat more due to limited physical energy, dealing with the ECV's in the parks, buses, rides from people who use them because they are obese, etc....

I am not trying to insult obese people, just as I'm sure many of you are not trying to insult smokers or e-smokers. I am not skinny minny myself, but I am dieting and trying to better myself, just as many e-smokers are trying to move toward a healthier lifestyle. & I'll tell you, no one quits overeating in a day, just as rarely anyone quits smoking in a day. I just think it's weird that when a person is smoking (even in a DSA) or e-cig smoking, there is bound to be some moron who starts fake coughing loudly & it's considered oK, yet if anyone started oinking or anything when an obese person rolled over their foot on an ECV or squished them into a bus seat, it is considered horrendous. BOTH behaviors are considered classless and horrendous to me :(

Be cautious with how much money you spend when you first buy it. E-cigs are not for everyone and some people do not enjoy the flavors. It took us a while to find the right flavors for us-marlboro and the menthol one. I have other friends who tried them but did not enjoy the flavors at all.

:woohoo:

applause, very well put

Electronic cigarette or smokeless cigarette has become the future of smoking.A big plus point of using smoke-less cigarettes for the smoker as well as for the people around him is that it does not create any secondhand smoke

i saw some on the internet that look like screwdrivers!!! lol

That's better than what the first e-cigs looked like. They looked *exactly* like tampons. :rotfl:

As an aside, we were at Coral Reef and somebody got an e-cig out and a CM told them that, while they knew it was an e-cig, they were only supposed to be used in the designated areas. We also saw somebody at Pop told the same thing. At no point did we see anybody, not even at DTD, using an e-cig outside of the smoking areas.

I agree with your assessment of the woman's behavior. Constantly taking a drag is not the way most people use them. Usually a drag or two every hour or so will do ya. They are very easy to use without exhaling a cloud of vapor, so there's no reason for anyone to even notice . I keep it very subtle in public.

True. Per the folks at the shop where I found my e-cig, you should only be taking a maximum of 4 - 5 puffs at a time. The nicotine in the packets (for my brand anyway) is actually higher than a single cigarette. A single packet should take the place of at least 7 or 8 normal cigs.

That's all true. But because it's so new, I see no reason to force the issue. If people are uncomfortable with it, that has to be respected along with the rights of people to smoke (whether it's these or "real" cigarettes).

Again, WDW is a big place... I'm sure there's room for everyone if everyone is willing to respect each other.

nytimez speaks with wisdom!

I considered using these for my next quit attempt (starting tomorrow) but after I saw this article about one exploding in some poor guy's face, I think I'll just go for it cold turkey. Every time I get a craving I'm just going to close my eyes and think "tower of terror...tower of terror...tower of terror..." lol

I saw some people using them at the parks last may (including while in line) and numerous members of the uninformed public screamed at these people. I thought I'd be witnessing a brawl on one or two occasions...not pretty.

My mom uses one that looks very much like a real cigarette (red glowy tip when she inhales, lots of vapor "smoke") so I can see why some folks might get confused and irate if they saw her using it outside the designated areas. And I definitely think that "real" smokers would abuse a lax policy on e-cigs if allowed to do so. A good compromise would be to permit the ones that do not look like a real cigarette and don't smoke.

I of course prefer to utilize a more traditional and classy method to discourage cigarette smoking. I light up a premium cigar and show them what REAL smoke is like :P NOTHING scatters filthy cigarette smokers like lighting up a rich Honduran churchill :)
