Just wondering if we should get holders for our passports? Do you use one? Some things sound really good in theory but get in the way when you use them. It seems as if it would be a good idea to protect them in your purse or bag. If you use one is there one that is better than others?

Thanks,

Penny

No, they are cute in concept but when you travel they are just a pain in the neck.

I have a passport cover, if that's what you mean. I've also seen larger things that are like a cover, ticket holder, credit card holder combination.

I like my passport cover, it keeps it from getting bent and banged around in my purse.

I don't have one, but if the whole family is going out of the country I put them all in a large zip-loc bag so I can keep them together.

My DH has one of those things that attach to your waist and 'hide' under your shirt that you can keep your passport and some cash/credit cards in when in a country where theft and pickpocketing is a big problem. I also bought one of those kinds that hang from your neck, but have never used it.

If you are talking about a decorative cover, I've never thought about buying one. Just seems like more weight, and I'm sure they make you remove it before showing it. Whatever you prefer is what you should do.

I have a leather cover (duofold) that also holds several charge cards, etc. I usually put everything I'll need for travelling in that (cash, drivers license, travel itineraries) and then into my travel bag or backpack instead of a handbag, makes it much easier to access at all the security checkpoints.

I have a document holder that I have used for years. There is a place for cash, itineraries, hotel and car reservations, and airline tickets which don't exist anymore, but I put the flight info in their. It keeps it all very organized and in one place.

I use the one that hangs from your neck. It is a name tag with compartments for the Passport and currency.

I'm in the put it in a ziploc camp, then it goes in an interior pocket of my purse/backpack. If we're in a city or other area with theft potential, the ziplocked passport(s) go in DH's waist wallet under his clothes.

If you're talking about the passport covers, no: they ask you to remove them at immigration and passport checks, so it's more hassle than it's worth.

I keep two copies of everything in different places and leave a copy of all the details with a friend or relative. That way, if I lose something, I have a back-up copy with me, and if I lose both (!) I can reclaim those details.

It doesn't take long to do and doesn't take up much space (2-3 sheets of paper in a plastic wallet). Once you've set it up for one trip, it's just a case of changing a few details each time.

DH and I have passort covers, they really aren't a hastle at all when travelling. We use them so we can put our E111 (European health card) and the paper part of our drivers licence in there as well so we know where they are and don't forget to take them when we leave the country. The covers were bought as a gift for us in a set of travel items so we didn't purposly go out and buy them, but I am glad we have them. We have them in different colours too so I can see at a glance which passport belongs to which person.

I have one that was a gift. I will use it next time I travel and take my passport...and then decide.
DH travels a lot and keeps his passport in his daytimer. It is looking a bit worn.

Nope.

My passports always end up looking pretty beaten up by the time they expire. Of course, I kinda like them that way...it means they were put to good use ;)

I got a really nice looking leather passport cover. First time I presented my passport I was told to remove it. Never used it since.

That's what happened to me & I gave it away. Looks cute but a hassle.

As far as $$$$, ID etc. years ago when I started to travel abroad I was told you never keep everything in one place such as an organizer.
If you misplace it or your robbed you have zero ID.

I used a leather cover because I carry it in my purse with me.

Comes in handy when I run into an account I haven't changed over to my married name yet- my DL is in my married, my passport in my maiden. I can be two people on any given day!

This is why I don't keep everything in one place. And like another PP, I make two copies of everything...and keep a copy at home.

DH, DD and I all have different colored leather ones (black, pink and gold). They're cute and they absolutely protect your passport. We travel internationally several times a year and also use them as ID when we travel domestically. We have never been asked to remove them.

I don't because I do not want my DD's to handle their passport. I am afraid it will get lost/misplaced. I also do not let them keep their own AP's at WDW either though. ;)
We have airports down to a science. My girls have been traveling internationally since they were toddlers so we have had to adapt some.
Right now when we/they pack our carryons we make sure everyone has their 1 quart bag of top so they can easily pull it out. They wear shoes that are easy on/easy off too. Since the girls were 7 or so they have been responsible for getting themselves through security but I hold on to their passport until right before we go through security and then I take them back and out in my travel notebook.
The best compliment I got was when we were in a very long TSA line and the security guard heard me reminding the girls of what to do, he pulled us out of a long line of business people and let us go ahead of them. I am not sure if he thought we would be fast or slow but boy, we got up there and got thru security asap!
