Do you tip your massage therapist?

We are the type of people who tip when appropriate (cabbies, bell hops, salon techs, tow truck driver, wait staff) and always generously, but we are stymied by this one.

You tip the tow truck driver? For real? :earseek: Is this a common practice? Really, I can't even fathom tipping the tow truck driver who charges over 100 bucks to take my car five miles. I'm a firm believer in tipping, but in the case of the tow truck driver, he is SOL.

I tip the tow truck driver cause he saved my bacon...and because I use AAA so it never costs me a bundle!

Our massage therapists are not ina salon. They have their own free standing building and are a massage therapy group.

I thought the same thing, lol.

I kid you not, when I dropped some DVDs off at the rental store the other day, I noticed there was a jar marked "TIPS" on the counter!

You gotta be kiddin! Was there some kind of coffee area that the tips could have been for? If they want tipped for checking out DVDs they need their heads examined! Good grief! That is taking things a bit far!

As for the tow truck driver, it'll NEVER happen. I don't have AAA, so it's outta pocket for me, and they charge a small fortune for their services. I'm surprised that some people do this. I had never heard of it before.

Yes I tip....

But most who do medical massages do not necessarily expect it--if you are getting massaged at any place that does spa services--then yes you should tip. Most of my massages are medical, so unless I'm at a Physical therapists office, I tip anyway. About $5-10.

Do they offer spa services.

I go to one sometimes in a free standing building--b/c they offer spa services, I go ahead and tip.

I cannot in good conscience tip a medical practice though. I don't tip my dentist, or my chiropractor, or my doctor--so I will not tip a therapeutic masseuse who accepts my insurance for it.

Spas and hotels of course I tip - 20%.

At home I have an LMT who works on her own and comes to my apartment. One hour is $100 and I don't tip her. I also give her a Christmas present.

Yes-my massage therapist is in a spa so I tip her as I would for any other spa services. :)

I don't get one very often but after the one I had last week, I might try to go monthly - she was awesome and I felt so good after she was done. She was very considerate and asked me if there were spots that she was hurting me and eased up when I clenched up in some spots. She was the best one I've had yet. So she got a nice tip - she was in a salon.

I did have one at the local hospital when they started doing them and I did not tip - it was a medical setting, didn't even think about it.

So for me - in a spa or personal office, yes; in a medical setting, no.

I always tip the tow truck driver. The tow is always free since its through AAA but I have always tipped the tow truck driver, I asked at work today and out of 10 people only one said they don't tip them so its pretty common here.
