We have two Boxers and I have always bathed them, cleaned their ears, and clipped their nails. I hate to say it but I've simply gotten tired of the chore and am taking them in to a groomer to take care of this for me every 2 weeks starting tomorrow. It cost $28/dog. Having never visited a groomer, I was wondering if you tip the groomer like you would your barber?

I tip them just like I would tip a hairdresser. Never hurts to stay on the good side of the people that take care of your "furry family"!

My dogs groomer costs 46.00, they pick him up and drop him off, I give 4.00 to the guy that picks him up and brings him home and 10.00 to the groomer for a tip so it comes to 60.00 for each groom.

I take Tucker once a month or so. My groomers charge $45 and I give her a $10 tip during the year and $20 at Christmas time. It's SO worth the money, he's a Norwegian Elkhound and for those who know the breed, they SHED bad!! By going to the groomers, it keeps his shedding down! Thank goodness I have a Dyson vacuum cleaner!!

Along the same lines, would you tip your kennel owner after leaving your pet there for a period of time? I never have and I'm wondering if I should!

what about places like petsmart? we have only had our yorkie groomed once and I was going to tip, but there really wasn't anyway to do it. It was busy and people were just waiting in line and they would bring your dog out to you and you pay at the register in the front of the store. There were people grooming and then people getting the pets. I had no idea who groomed him and there was no tip jar.

When I took my cat to petsmart for the first time for a bath and to get brushed, I called my sister on the way home and told her how handsome he looked. She asked how much it cost and what I tipped. I told her I didn't tip, and she was shocked. I felt so bad, I immediatly turned around, ran back in and tipped the groomer, I felt awful that I didn't know. But atleast I made it right. And I knew for the future.

The only grooming we have done with our dog is to get her nails trimmed. It takes them about 30 seconds, no we don't tip for that.

I tip 20%.

OP, is there a reason you are going to have your boxer groomed twice a month? I have always been told to only have short haired dogs groomed once a month at the most. I have little breeds, so maybe its different. :confused3

We absolutely tip the person at Petco that trims Riley's nails. I've tried several times, and it just takes me too long.

Actually, the last time we went in, she didn't even charge us, so she got a far bigger tip than normal!

All you groomer tippers out there, it is definitely appreciated that YOU appreciate the care we give to your furbabies with a tip. At our shop approximately 50% of our customers tip, which is a very low percentage considering the upscale area we're in. I've worked in other areas where it was about 90%. :confused3
A friend once asked me if I thought her groomers took better care of her dog if she tipped, and the answer is definitely NO. We take absolutely the best care of every dog or cat we see, regardless of whether or not you tip, but we sure like YOU a lot better if you do. And ironically it's usually the owners of the complete doll babies that tip the best. The ones with the total hounds from hell hardly ever do.

My dog is that hound from hell which is why I make sure I tip them LOL.. I know what a nasty thing he is. I even asked if they would like me to tranquilze him prior to them coming to get him and they said that he was not that bad yet and they could handle him with just a muzzle (I would not expect them to attempt it without a muzzle!). The funny thing though is that he always comes home with this long beard, he looks like a billy goat because they cant cut that one long area with the muzzle on!

We take our Boxers to the dog run every other day. They love mixing it up with the other dogs and get pretty dirty. We rub them down with a damp towel after the trips, but by the end of 2 weeks, the towel technique just doesn't cut it anymore.

Thanks for the answers, all...I'll make sure to tip!!

We tip usually about 20%. We have a mobile groomer that comes right to the house and has a cute little van with a whole setup.

It does cost more, but the kids technically don't have to leave the house I guess, so it's worth it.

I can understand wanting to clean up those Boxers! We have a Doberman and I swear, the dog actually SWEATS! He needs a bath more than any other dog we have, lol!
