Do you Tip Uber?

I take Uber all the time as my license is under a medical hold. I tip. Pretty much every time. And the few cases I haven't, I've written Uber for a complaint. I love Uber and have no issues tipping the wonderful drivers I get. I know some of them now.

I'm not morally opposed to tipping an Uber driver, but as many others have said the entire point is that it's a cashless system. If I had to carry cash for a tip, that would defeat the convenience.

Nope, I don't tip Uber, unless they go out of their way to help me with my bags, nor do I know anyone who tips. I can't quite figure out why not tipping when the whole point was for it to be a cashless system makes you a not decent person, but whatever. :rolleyes2

Also, I have a 5 star rating.

I have never used them but why wouldn't you tip. Isn't the same thing as a Taxi?
The thing is Uber touted themselves as not a taxi service because if they were a taxi service then they would be subject to all sorts of laws and regulations. Lyft is also lumped in there with Uber.

They were kicked out of KC area for a while until they came to an agreement with Uber bending on some things. One of the things I believe the KC area wanted Uber to do was to have minimum auto insurance coverage, etc and Uber didn't like restrictions to be imposed on them. The taxi companies we had here (10/10 for example) didn't like Uber coming in because of lost business.

Uber isn't well loved by all cities a lot of it comes from the whole resistence to being considered a taxi service and concerns with their business model.

I always tip. I use it somewhat frequently.

The only time I didn't tip, was at Disneyland when the driver recognized my husband as military and didn't charge us. He refused to accept a tip other than a handshake from my husband.

Before UBER I paid $20 plus tip for ride in a taxi from POFQ to WL- but now I have used UBER several times while at WDW. So far every driver has been great. I do tip a couple of $$ usually but I always leave a high rating for the driver. So, if the ride was good leave positive feedback-that will help the driver in the long run. Btw- when you exit the car just tell the driver something like "I'm giving you a five star rating". They will appreciate it. I will add that a tip is not expected with UBER like it is with a TAXI service.

Nope. I have tipped a Lyft driver but only ever once because he was WONDERFUL.

Pretty much same. I've taken 500+ Uber rides, here in the U.S. and abroad, have never tipped, and have a 4.75 rating. Drivers will never complain about you not tipping them because then the passenger could give that driver a 1 star. And the rating is much more important for the drivers than it is for the passengers.

Thanks pacolovestacos.

So I'm not the biggest fan of Uber but aside from that I do have an issue with being able to rate riders. I do get it on the one side in that you don't want to pick up "the jerk" who is known to be "the jerk" but I have heard of Uber drivers giving lower raters to their riders because of lack of tips. I'm thinking this is on an individual Uber driver issue rather than a broad norm but still. I'm not so fond of a business model that says "we're cashless" and then allows for ratings to be impacted by not tipping. I know Uber drivers can put up a tips sign but then I would feel pressured to give tips and I'm more likely to have my card not cash.

Has anyone seen an Uber driver have something like a Square attached to their phone to take tips? Is that even allowed?

We're in an Uber car right now. I just HAD to know what my DISfriends had to say about this topic. It's our first time using it. Since we're going from an airport with bags, through rush hour traffic, we're paying a premium but we'll tip too. If I used for a night out, I wouldn't. We're part of the American-must-tip mentality. Not a bad thing.

That's debatable to, well, pretty much every other country in the world.

We have only used Uber when we have luggage. They have always helped, so we tip.

I tipped extra the one time we went from Disney Grand Californian to LAX. The driver accidentally got off the wrong exit, so he stopped the clock way before he should have. He felt so bad, and it was barely a 3 minute diversion.

I have used my Uber account three times so far and tipped twice. First ride in Portland, driver got out and helped me and my son with our bags...in the rain. He tried to refuse the tip and I asked him to please take it because we appreciated his help with the bags. Second ride in Chicago, also me and my son (plus bags) and the driver didn't get out of the car. He popped the trunk and we loaded them ourselves. No problem for me at all but did not tip anything.
Third ride was arranged for my DD and she had a ton of art supplies (going to a class) and the driver helped her load everything. She also tipped him for the assistance.

Two other times I was with a group that used Uber to get back and forth to a restaurant (someone else made the arrangements) and tips were not given for either ride.

It's funny to see this pop up again. I haven't read all the posts, but Uber in South Florida is now automatically set up to add a 20% tip. DH didn't try to remove the tip, so I don't know, if that was an option.

The only Uber service I know that includes a tip automatically is UberTAXI which is 20% (though from what I understand you can adjust that it's just automatically added at the rate of 20% or at least I've read where people have been able to adjust the amount).

I'm guessing since the amount you mentioned is the exact amount that gets pre-selected that your husband had used uberTAXI.
