Do you tip Mousekeeping?

I think they only do those if they think there is a child in the room.

We have been to Disney over a dozen times in the last four years, stayed Pop to GF and we have never once gotten anything, whether we have tipped or not. And we very clearly have children.

Yup, we tip. Now, having said that, there were times when in the morning, I would not have any small bills on me so we would just not tip that day. But, most days, we would leave $3 to $5 for mousekeeping.

It depends on the circumstances if we tip or not.

When we went this last January my 18 month old got sick all over our bed 4 out of the 7 nights we were there. We needed new bedspread, sheets, and all new towels. We felt bad for mousekeeping for having to clean up after our sick kid so we tipped them around $6-7 each time.

DH and I went by ourselves in Dec '06. We requested not to have our sheets or towels changed out. I think they have a little card you can put on you bed to indicate this and put your towels on the shower rod or something. We just wanted our beds made and our garbage emptied. EVERYDAY we had fresh towels and sheets. Not that this is a bad thing, just annoying. Because they had given us a service we didn't ask for we felt obligated to tip. So we left $5 at the end of the week.

From now on when we stay at disney we will only do mousekeeping every 3 days to be more eco-friendly. Usually this does not warrant a tip from us, cleaning our room 2 times on a trip.

We are leaving in just a few days - and we plan leaving a little tip every day - as long as our service is good... like anything else I tip good service... but we are only going to leave like 2 - 3 bucks a day... I think for us that is significant and plenty of $$$$

we leave a minimum of $5 per day no matter where we stay at WDW...when my husband and son went a few weeks ago, the mousekeeper didn't take the money the first day and when they got back to the room she was a few doors down, so my son took the money down to her. the next day she left a little thank you note for them for the money from the day before and from that day too

WDW should be ashamed of themselves to pay their employees that little!!!! OMG!!! What is minimum wage in FL? I live in MA and our minimum is $8.00 an hr!!!

I tipped on our last visit but only on the last day. Why? Well, we always put the Do Not Disturb thing in the door so all MK did was leave a bag of clean towels. I figured I was perfectly capable of making the beds each day and then I didn't have to worry about anyone else in my room. I had a watch stolen once that was a gift from my grandparents so I am forever leary-Disney or not. It was nice that they left the towels for us. JMO.

I also almost always leave the Do Not Disturb sign. I use the bag of towels, shampoo, etc. they leave and if I need anything else, I seek out a mousekeeper (or a cart) and retrieve these items (esp garbage bags). why? only because there is just the 2 of us; we don't need our sheets changed every day or new towels. I don't like the inconvenience of a knock on the door in the morning if I'm sleeping in.(I HATE it when I leave the sign out and they knock anyway, just to be sure, or to get my signature that I don't want service. why disturb me with a knock to make sure I don't want to be disturbed? ) or we like to return to the room during the day to change quickly for the pool (or from the pool) and don't like seeing a stranger in our room. we like our privacy. I don't like my newspaper thrown out when I haven't finished reading it, and I don't care about towel animals.
(now when we get to come with our grandkids in a few years, it will be dif.

but if we do use the service after a few days, we do tip, and always leave some for the maid who does the main cleaning after we leave.

Oh yeah... $5 per day (@ least) and happy to do it. Mousekeeping is a tough and thankless job. Throw in some messy and rude people, low pay, and still have the time and desire to make towel animals and greet you in the hallway with an "aloha".

Several vacations ago our daughter came down with a stomach issue (going both ends). Our mousekeeper was fantastic. She was like one of the family. She even brought chick/noodle soup. We left her a "nice" tip and an e-mail to Disney PR.

The short answer is "no, you don't have to tip", but we do because thats how we roll...

Emily Post, known as an authority on etiquette, suggest the following:

Housekeeper: $2-$5 per day, left daily

I've also had the "opportunity" with a sick child and a dropped glass to call housekeeping for some assistance. I've reward those folks for their "above and beyond" duty individually.

However, these are guidelines (and I think geared towards the U.S). Tipping is always optional.

I was one person with my family of 4 next door adjoining rooms in ASMu. My room was ready when we checked in -had to wait for theirs till we got back from MK.

We all walked into mine-it stunk like chlorine but it was perfectly clean with a birdie towel animal and a mickey on the bed.
Turning on the AC helped th chlorine smell.

Returning at night we find no animals for the other room.

We stayed 5 nights. During that time my bed linens were not changed nor did I want them to be but there was no card asking if I wanted them changed or not. My bed was made-my towels replenished. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was one person and very organized and neat.

On the other hand, my family spread out as they were 4 people. Same exact mousekeeper did not make their beds every day and left a glass of half drunk coke in their room. None of the girls stuffed animals were displayed and no towel animals during their entire stay.

The day before leaving I recieved on my towel birdie a little note about "A little birdie told me you were leaving tommorow I hope you had a magical stay" signed by the mousekeeper. My family did not get the same birdie or note at all.

I know it was the exact same mousekeeper because I saw him getting ready to do our rooms at the beginning of the trip and it was guy who signed the little birdie card.

I left him $10 for 5 nights attached to the birdie card (took the birdie for the girls). I did not like the way he took care of an easy customer (me) and blew off the family of 4.

I do not know if theyleft a tip or not-probably but I was pretty ticked off.

We do, but even with envelopes it is not always taken. I still put some out the next day in case there is a different person or they change their mind and decide to take it.

I try to find our mousekeeper on our first day there and see how long she will be there for. Usually we end up having the same one for most of our trip. Sometimes I will personally hand her the day (or two's) worth of trips if she is there, so that I know she will definitely get them.

I (normally) tip $3 per day - a $ for each of us. And as an aside, since I know my kids put a new spin on the word SLOB I always clean up after them. Otherwise the poor unsuspecting Mousekeeper wouldn't be able to get in the door!

I tip everyday, not a lot but some. We have a DS2 that leaves a trail of crumbs everywhere, so they have a little more to clean in my room. Our first trip we tipped at the end of the trip, all other trips we tipped every day.I have received towel animals either way.

Depending on the service, I leave $2-3 per head, per day. I'm styaing at Shades of Green so I don't know their tipping policy.

On our last trip, we tipped daily. However on the tip before that we did it at the end of the trip and I'm not sure if the right person got it. So I play it safe now and tip daily.

On our last trip, we tipped $7 a day for our 11 day trip. For us it is easier to do it daily then to do it at the end.

I used to be a hairstylist so I know how important tipping is. When I go to a restaurant I always give 20% and higher.
