Do you think WL will be added to the monorail?

Is this even possible?

I was going over all the things I like about each resort and thought WL would be close to perfect if it was on the monorail.

Do you think this will ever happen?

I would expect Disney to raise the room rates if this were to happen to be more in line with the Poly for example. I wouldn't mind paying more for this.

I know the cost is very high but do you think higher room rates at WL could help offset this in any way?

Is there room at WL for a monorail platform, etc?

Thanks in advance for any info or your opinion on this.

Anything is possible and there would be room for a platform, but this will never happen, if you ask me. Given that Disney can hardly find money for maintenance (ok - I'm exaggerating, but budgets have been cut everywhere, hours and entertainment curtailed, stock in the dumper, etc.), a huge capital expenditure like this is unlikely. The cost of putting in the beam and the cost per car are VERY high. If they had the money it would be better spent on rides and attractions. I doubt an increase in room rates would recoup the cost in any reasonable amount of time. We own at VWL and I'd love to be able to hop the monorail, but the boat will have to do.

I read years ago that Disney did try to expand the monorail (not sure if it included a stop at the WL) but the land was too swampy or something, and caused what they started to build to sink. So the idea was shelved.

Anyone else read something like that?

I wish they would connect all of the parks before anything else. EPCOT is not far at all from MGM. That would be a good first step.

The monorail was originally going to be at the WL. If you get the chance to notice there is an abandoned platform upstaris at the WL. That was to be the monorail loading dock. But it was just too costly. The track would be in the 10 millions and each car costs 11 million. Plus the area is very swampy, but I haven't heard that straight from Disney. I guess it is possible, though not likely.

I actually hope they never do. WL is our favorite place and part of the charm is the feeling of being secluded in a "Wilderness".:D

I don't think this will be a priority for Disney given budget constraints and the boat service to MK.

Ratpack, I totally agree with you. I truly hope they never add the WL onto the monorail, yes it probably would be more convenient for many reasons, but it is also one of the reasons we dont like the Poly. When we were there on our honeymoon we went to Poly to look around and it seemed like Grand Central Station. I think that would detract from the "feeling" of being at WL. Can you tell WL is our favorite? :p

Vlahkis is correct, the WL was originally designed with the idea that it "could" one day be connected to the monorail... however, I believe that the idea was scrapped. Think about it, it really wouldn't fit well in the theming.

...relish the thought of having the convenience of WL being a "monorail" resort, I can't forsee it happening. I agree that, part of the charm of WL is its seclusion from MK and the rest of the "world" and the monorail would not lend itself to that premise. Besides, one of the loveliest features about WL are the ferry rides to/from MK!!

I read someplace the cost per foot of expanding the monorail and I seem to recall it was close to a million for a VERY short span. Based on that I think the monorail is at full circle!

Plus my one experience on a monorail resort failed to convince me that it is as wonderful as everyone says it is. First you stop one way or the other at THREE resorts and the TTC for the Magic Kingdom. For epcot the same stops and a train change at TTC. Now the bus from most resorts just goes to Epcot and the MK. I found it kind of frustrating.
