Do you think they will offer any "special" discounts on annual passes?

Sounds good but it's not much. A fifth day on a MYW is about $10. Adding water parks to a park hopper is about $27.

Why 12? Adult prices start at 10.

I'm assuming the 2yr old will like Disney until age 12. If he loses interest sooner I'll sell even sooner. It's not about adult v child price, which is negligible.

I really do think prices are such that the value is starting to erode, at least for my family. It's a pity.

If nobody else really cares for Disney that much anymore then, somewhat dependent on where you own, I'd probably be considering selling now. You still can go to Disney either with cash CRO room or renting. The resale value for the older resorts is doing nicely and it wouldn't be the worst time to exit. Of course it might go even higher but it's another 10 years of ownership and dues and unknowns of where prices will go.

I just renewed my AP last week so if Disney does offer a DVC AP discount between the next time I have to renew I will definitely jump in on that deal, however I am not holding my breath.

I would encourage all members to log onto your DVC accounts, select "Help & Contact" write an email about offering DVC members discounts on AP. I do it at least once a year.

DebbieB, I should have elaborated a bit when I made my previous comments... Yes, I am aware that they offer discounts on AP at WDW but that AP discount is not offered at Disneyland and I'm on the west coast. I write DVC member services once a year asking for the same AP discount offered at WDW for Disneyland.

It is offered but it's only $20 off. Kind of insulting, just like a fifth day free would be. But keep in mind there is a 10% DVC discount at almost all Disneyland food locations, wish they would extend that to WDW.

Yeah, the $20 discount is kinda insulting because my employer offers the same discount and they have nothing to do with Disney. I would suspect DVC to do more which is the reason why I write them once a year. I would suggest you do the same if you want the 10% food discount at WDW.

One could argue that they don't offer a discount on the annual pass anymore. They simply created a different pass that can only be purchased by Florida residents and DVC members. The "regular" annual pass that is $100 more actually has more benefits, so it really isn't apples to apples. One could tell themselves they don't go during the blockout dates so it is effectively the same, but it truly isn't. (this was from memory, so if I missed some details or nuances then I am open to correction). I know I was a little irked at the distinction when I was looking at the new option.

If they aren't going to offer a straight money discount then they should consider offering something with more access. Maybe they could even give back some of the access they took away, that would be typical. The manufactured value....

The premium pass special was brilliant in my eyes, because it was a win - win. There was value to the DVC member and it probably had a self serving purpose for Disney. They were able to funnel some folks to the water parks, and introduce some people to the premium pass that may have gone ahead and upgraded on their dime the next time around. They even closed the purchase discount gap shortly after those passes were sold.

So it may not be all about just giving something for nothing, I am sure they could find a way to milk something out of it for themselves. Maybe during construction they could make the pass only good at Hollywood Studios and not other park on Tuesdays and Thursdays....

DVC could not purchase the equivalent "gold" pass previously so they did not increase the price on that per se. Since prices went up on all the AP's I'd say that DVC members were fortunate that they were given a new option. Do I like the higher prices? No. But Disney did it to all, not just DVC.

Better than being forced into the much more expensive premium annual pass, which would be the equivalent of what we had before. Disney ticketing created this, most likely DVC did not have much of a say.

The previous DVC AP was $529 plus tax. So the gold is $20 more, has blackout dates but includes photopass.

Unfortunately, the WDW AP discount was reduced from $150 to $100
(I believe the FL resident discount was also reduced)

If we were given the Gold option with the $150 discount we wouldn't be complaining about being given the option to get a gold AP that is $30 cheaper than the old 2015 AP

I'm betting, & waiting anxiously, but I do think that there will be another announcement made in the upcoming year...With the way things are going, and the numerous amounts of unhappy guests ( Ticket pricing/Lack of rides. etc etc. ) I bet they do come up with an attractive deal for the Gold AP, for DVC members..(Special Pricing or something ) Maybe throw in the TIW card with the reg. price. Either route , the last 2 times that they've done this , there were 2 years in between, so maybe it's just wishfull thinking on my part, but I'm banking on another SWEET DEAL. Come on Disney don't let us down..LoL
