Do you think there will be a need for me to bring a little cash ?

I don't want to bring any cash at all, because I feel it's safer and more easy to just charge everything with my room key. Everything I will buy at my hotel and the parks and downtown disney ect. > But I was curious if I should bring a little bit of cash as a backup ? In case the machines go down ? Do the machines ever go down in DisneyWorld in such a way where you could not use your room key or debit card to buy something ? Just wanted some opinions :)

I too, rarely cary cash. But not having at least $100 on you at any time while at WDW is ludicrous.

Tips for the valet. A $20 bill to grease the greater at a resturaunt to give you a better seat or actually get you in.

Vender carts for balloons or ice cream.

There are many many other times when cash is just more practical.

We usually take very little cash...some for tipping mousekeeping, and unexpected little things like vendor carts and vending machines. $100 in small bills is more than enough for us :)

I agree. You wouldnt want to get caught in a bad situation like not being able to pay for something like a coke or baloon just b/c all you have is debit/ credit :worried:

Definitely take some cash. You'll want it if you buy a soda or a popcorn from a vending cart, you'll need it for the toll roads getting from the airport to Disney, you'll need it for tips and various little things you may not have thought of yet. It doesn't have to be a lot of cash, but take some cash.

Take some cash for your pocket. It's much easier to carry $20 each day to buy a drink or snack at a cart--or whatever that only cost a few bucks.

If you're worried about cash, you could get some traveller's checks. When we took our trip, we carried at least $20 in cash to the parks, and about $100 in traveller's checks. I think there was only one time we actually used them, but it's better to be prepared.

On my last trip I had cash, but hardly used it. Before I leave on vacation I make up Mousekeeping envelopes and pre "stuff" them so I don't have to worry about finding change. As for things like sodas and popcorn from the vendors, they also take your room key, it's a simple swipe for them, I did it all the time without any trouble. It is good to have cash for tips, like the other posters said, and I don't think you can charge the balloons, but other than that I charged it all! Made my life a lot easier.

I don't leave my house to drive my daughter to school without some cash on me. I can't imagine going to Florida without some. There are so many reasons to have lots of $1.00's on you. Tipping the valet or bell staff. Tipping the skycap at the airport. Tolls if you are driving. Balloons, arcades, etc.

Have Fun!

Take some cash for emergencies or incidentals that the card just won't work for.

Dont' forget that you can leave most of your $$ in the room safe and just take a small bit with you to the parks.

On our last trip we actually brought close to $1000 in travelers checks because our trip was very carefully budgeted and saved for. We really couldn't afford to charge anything because we knew we were not so good at monitoring our receipts. It was much easier for us to cash a few checks here and there and have a daily "allowance" to help us meet our budget.

Does this actually work at WDW? I hadn't heard about anyone trying it, and always assumed that if a restaurant wasn't taking walk-ins you were out of luck.

...if you want to use any of the old-timey nickelodeon machines, you will need actual coinage. One time we got stuck in the Train Station during a downpour and didn't have any pennies/nickels to make the nickelodeons *go*. And nobody else had the proper coins to operate them either. (Not sure where the machines are these days...)
And I reallyreallyreally wanted to see them in action...phooey.

agnes!

I or actually, my father-in-law used it last november.

We strolled up to Alfreedo's one nice November day in 2004 during Food and Wine festival. It was about 4:00pm and we wanted an early donner, no ADR's.

My wife and her mom went to check in at the podium inside, when my father in law and I walked up to the outside podium. The girls came back saying 1 hour minimum. There were 5 or 6 small groups who were obviously standing around waiting for the walk up outside table seating. We walked up and i inquired and he said he'd get back to me in a while. My FIL reached out and put a 20 in his hand. he than said something in italian and a busser oushed to tables together, and our party of 5 was seated right a way. You should have scene the look on the faces of those we bypassed.

Gesseppie then made sure we were taken care of quite well. I told him it was my wifes birthday (which it was) and he and a few other italian men sang for her. It was disney magic.
