Just like people that purposely get a thread locked by going on and posting argumenative things so they can report them after getting replys?

Simply because they don' like the subject matter or the point of view of the OP?

Back to the OT, I can understand why people in unusual time zones would want the "new rule," but what I don't understand is why some people take message board arguments so seriously that they need the "proof" that's in an OP.

I think we have opposing views on what is immature.

To me - what an anonymous person, on a message board posts, or chooses to remove is the last thing in my life I'll worry about.

That's just me, though. I see the pile on's sometimes, and no matter what the OP once posted, I feel terrible for the person. They back the person into a corner, and it's just gross.

Its also called being a troll. (baiting and troll are close to the same meaning when used in the connotation of a messge board) (I have also been on boards where they call it pot stirring, raking it up (muck raking) and so on) The end result is the same.

and what you are missing is that the idea is to get a "snapshot" or quote of their post, so that when you reply, they don't go back and change THEIR post, making your reply look off topic or off the wall.

It took place a LOT on the threads that involved politics and religion till the mods thankfully got rid of those subjects.

I see where you are coming from but when that turns to bashing the op for entertainment is where a lot of people are having the problem ...there is a difference and when it crosses that line whether other people think the op is in the wrong or not bashing b/c they choose to live the way they live or have opinions that differ is wrong period... we can all use some understanding and class when it comes to this b/c it can always be handled with we should agree to disagree and leave it at that instead of bashing and keep someones post to "prove" why there are in the wrong and belittle, embarrass, and harass...that is not cool and immature just not the wagon I want to jump on..I would hope that most people wouldn't want to jump on that one either ...

Well, we latecomers to certain threads need to know what we missed, so that our very appropriate responses make sense!

Today? No idea. But look back about a week for a thread referring to favorite ice cream flavors. That WASN'T the original topic/title, but after several apparently disagreeing responses, the OP changed the title and the original post.

we are not "bashing" anyone when we do that, but simply making sure that we know what it was they posted. nothing more or less.

the animosity that you seem to think is connected with quoting someone is simply not there.

and perhaps the people that protest it have been caught in a "revisionist" situation themselves and do not like being reminded that what they have in a post was not their original words they used?

problem solved ... like I said there are always other ways of handling a situation like that instead of trying to keep proof of someone that is obviously trying to ruffle feathers...

for what it is worth I wasn't talking about situations like that anyway..I was talking about situations where the op is bashed just b/c others think they should adhere to what they think they should...and sometimes they may just think it would easier to just delete it as it was a mistake and didn't want the board to be nasty b/c of them.... there are all kinds of reasons why a person would delete a post so who are we to jump to the conclusion that they did just b/c they didn't get the responses they wanted??? sometimes that may be true but how do we really know???

My point is that a little understanding can go a long way as we really have no idea what is really going on in that person's life ....and why would we want to put that much effort into bashing them in the first place???

I do understand that some people don't quote to bash I get that - I have seen my far share of people getting bashed for no good reason on this board and just makes me so sad - I just don't think it is right for other people to bash or be nasty about their opinions life is too short to put that much effort into being mean to people you have never met or know nothing about - sometimes people post things and it comes out wrong and that is not what they meant and when they try to explain themselves they get bashed and theirs thrown back in their face all twisted up ...

It's not when people disagree that's the problem, it's when people belittle, make fun, and bash others that is horrible.
