Do you think it's possible to complain...

....about a resort and not get blasted by a bunch of people and probably have the thread locked at some point?

I was just thinking how predictable and funny it is. Someone posts: I was so disappointed in the Poly! The concierge staff was so snooty and told me I was "on my own" , the maids had lunch in my room and didn't clean up , and the lifeguards were drinking on the job and the hairdryer malfunctioned and set my hair on fire .

Then someone posts, I'm so sorry your trip wasn't magical. The Poly has been practically perfect in every way every time we've stayed there (and under their breath..."so I don't know what you are talking about you big liar!")

Then it deteriorates into people fighting about that ever amiguous "sense of entitlement" and how people expect too much and how "some people just complain too much and let things that don't matter get to them.

It invariably ends withl the OP feeling like crap and wishing he'd never posted!! :rotfl: Think that could ever change!!??

I have to agree it is getting out of hand!!!!

i was on one of the other boards here at the DIS and people were posting how they didtn feel like they could post concerns about the resort stays here as they get flamed and made to feel bad about there opinion. People we have to take the good with teh bad
everyone has there own experiences why do we have to be so judgemental

i think everyone needs to chill toooo many threads are closed over nothing but pettiness

My 2 cents.
I think it all depends on the OP. I have logged on and seen posts about people disappointed with some aspect of their trip and most of the time, I think DISers sympathize and say "sorry to hear you had a bad trip". If they can post how much they hated something, certainly we can post an experience that was the exact opposite.
But I think overall, there is a difference between "posting a legit complaint", and "complaining". I log on to the DIS for my disney fix. :goodvibes To get my questions answered and to maybe answer someone else questions. I like to read about both good and bad experiences. But what I dont like to read about, are people complaining about such silly things that ultimately ruined their trip and bum me out while I am reading it. I cant speak for everyone when I say this but I think the way the thread ultimately goes, depends on the words of the OP. They set the tone for whether they are viewed as posting a complaint or sounding like a whiner.
:)

I think the question to ask before posting a complaint is "who is this going to help?" Inevitably, the answer is "no one". Legitimate complaints should be directed to the source of the problem, not a bunch of anonymous readers. Clearly most of the complainers are simply seeking attention and are oblivious to how ridiculous they make themselves appear.

I think everyone should be allowed to voice their opinion about a resort. But there is a right and a wrong way to do this.

When someone posts I know I am going to get flamed for this it seems to bring on the flamers.

It is the nature of bulletin boards that sometimes everyone is not going to agree. I think the DIS is friendlier than most boards. If you see a post getting out of hand just notify a moderator and they can keep an eye on it. Use the little triangel on the left hand side of a post.

Bingo! And to add, it should be done while you are at Disney. Sometimes the OP is asked, did you complain while there and the answer is "no." What good do you think it will do to complain now? There's no opportunity for the resort to correct the problem. :confused3

It does seem that some resorts have their own "fan club" that can be somewhat overly aggressive in their defense of the favored resort. Then again, some reports of bad experiences, at least on the surface, appear to be somewhat exaggerated for effect and/or sympathy/extra pixie dust from fellow DISers.

Actually I read the complaints as well as the "love" threads. I learn something from everything I read!!

Some of the complaints have given me information... like the a/c is set to motion, and how to override it... lets see, ok, towel animals, when I first read I thought the Deluxe resorts did do this on your visit, because of the threads I've learned its not an expecatation of any resort, but something that can, or cannot happen... so my expectations have become more "realisitic"

I've also read and compared visits to other hotel chains, no one is perfect, but I understand someone posting about minor details that make one wonder... the small tv's, the bathroom sinks inside the bathroom area, and of course who could not have learned something from the germ threads on hotel linens?? and floors??? and remote controls????

I also appreciate when someone also voices their experiences positive in the same thread... its a balance... and I appreciate it!! Of course how could you not be confused at the different posts on bus times?!! Because every day is different, so is every experience... and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to inform me of their experiences!!

(and I'll add that I hope it enlightens, and educates people on the concerns and difficulties of the special needs guests..... with the size of Disney its no wonder that there arent more problems...)

Yes, I think it can be done. I don't believe the thread I wrote about CSR was ever locked. DH and I had a bad experience there; and shared our story in part with everyone here. Most people were very nice in responding by saying they were sorry we didn't enjoy it. Other people said they felt the same way we did.

While we did not enjoy our stay there; we were not trying to persuade others not to stay there based on our experience. I didn't write it for attention, it wasn't exaggerated, and Dh and I did complain when we were there. CSR didn't live up to our previous experiences at other resorts and it was disappointing.

It is a shame that many threads go to such extremes that they need to be locked. It is important that we have both the good and the bad to have a more balanced scale. Too much of either generally is not a good thing. Many of the complaints can and do happen at all the resorts at some point in time. I think it is important to remember that.

I am new to all of this and have spent weeks reading through all of the posts. At times I 've stopped because it's no longer fun when people disagree, but in saying that, so many more people are willing to share and be happy with you and for you. That is remarkable.

I like reading people's opinions on different resorts. Good and bad. I want to know what people love and hate so I can use all the info to make the best choice for me. I do really feel bad when someone posts their honest opinions and people rip into them. I mean honestly, who are they hurting by stating their opinions ?

I agree with Safetymom...it is the nature of bulletin boards.

I also think that we all love Disney so much and we all have our favorite resorts, so maybe we get a little protective or defensive when someone says something negative about them. I know I get a little sad when I see how many people dislike the CBR, but at the same time everyone is entitled to their own likes and dislikes.

Personally, I like to see the good and the bad. I think when done it the proper form, it can be very helpful to people looking for information to help them plan.

I agree about saying something while you are there. We were there in March and a couple of really BIG issues. We did speak with someone while we were there. I felt they settled to first 2 issues well but there was nothing they could do to satisfy me on the third. I also sent a letter when we returned home. I never posted anything because I didn't want the flames!!!

Complaints should be expressed to: WDW Guest Services, PO Box 10000, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Probably not. People like to defend their favorite resort.

What Disney did or didn't do to correct the problem means as much as the issue itself. I generally think the problem is exaggerated if the person didn't think it was bad enough to complain while in WDW.

I had an item that was shipped to my resort never make it. The gift shop employee said he was too busy to check. After the second day I complained to the hotel manager. He said the gift shop doesn't report to him but he asked for a list of the items that were purchased and just sent someone over to the studios to get the items. I didn't post because the problem was solved.

These boards set some people up for disappointment. Not every guest can get the perfect room and not every housekeeper leaves towel animals. The buses will be crowded at park closing.

Very true!

I think that in the last couple of weeks, there has been a slew of negative/complaint threads started and everyone on the DIS might be suffering from "negative thread fatige". Everyone's getting tired of all of the petty bickering, and I'm glad that these threads get shut down quickly. If you complain about a CM not smiling enough, and someone says "Wow, I think that the CMs are great", it's not an invite to start name calling and an argument, period. It's just another point of view, don't take it so personally. Although looking at the top 25 threads right now, everyone seems to be very positive and I really think the bickering tide has turned!

Besides, all of the arguments make no sense for a bunch of Disney dorks who come together to discuss "The Happiest Place on Earth". ;)

THAT DOES IT !!!!

I want to complain about posts who complain about people complaining!!!

:earboy2:  :rotfl2:

There are a lot of people here at the DIS who worship at the Church of Disney and see any criticism as blasphemy. On one hand it is funny, but then you have to think that Disney and WDW has an unhealthy hold on some people.

I love WDW. We go twice a year and I have very little to complain about; at the same time, though, I have had a few bad experiences and expressing them doesn't mean I should be excommunicated from the DIS.

Drop dead! I love complainers who complain about posts who complain about people complaining!!! :teeth:

I have learned a lot from others complaints so I hope people don't start posting them. I know a lot of the "flames" come from the same frustration I have and that is difference expectations. All posters are different and one posters idea of luxury is anothers worst vacation nightmare.

It would really help if responses to complaint posts were productive. We could ask questions to get past the different expectations issue to get to the heart of the problem. Then, everyone could decide for themselves how serious the issue is.

It has become very clear that Resorts have their loyal defenders, the comments posted become personal very fast. But on the flip side, many posters are being very thin skinned, taking offense to others opinions and making the criticism about them rather than the resort or experience.

It's all about a good time....remember?
