Do you think it’ll be less crowded?

We are going to WDW August 3-9. Do you DHS will be less crowded due to SWGE opening at the end of the month? Like maybe people are going to go at the end of August instead of the beginning? 🤞

I'm going around the same time, I can say it'll definitely be less crowded than when SWGE opens but I'm not counting on it to be much different than any other time in the summer. I feel like crowds are hard to predict.

I’m going around that time also and I’m hoping this is the case. One thing I’ve noticed in checking is that, we have 5 in our party, and there are still a ton of resort reservations and restaurant reservations available for 5 people during that time. Even popular ones like Chef Mickey and Garden Grill. I’m hoping this is a good sign!

We are also visiting around that time. It was a last-minute decision and I was worried the resorts we preferred would be booked, but they were available. I am just starting to make ADRs and I’m hoping we are equally fortunate with them. Fingers crossed!

If anything its going to be more crowded as people moved up their vacation to avoid the crowds. I thank those who have moved up their vacation to make mine less busy.

It certainly won't be more crowded; go take a look at availability of resorts or restaurant reservations. You can get a room at any resort on property at less than 30 days out, and damn near any dining reservation as well. I've seen available slots at Be Our Guest, California Grill, etc, even one or two for Victoria and Albert

Yeah, I was incredibly surprised that Le Cellier was still available on the days I wanted when I booked some new restaurant reservations a few days ago! And it was available for multiple timeslots!

Another indication would be fp availability. What was your fp booking day like? Were the headliners still available at HS? If so, chances are crowds will be lower than usual.

I doubt there will be a big difference. Early August is still summer break time. So if someone was planning a summer trip, I doubt they would push it back to the first couple of weeks of school just to go on one ride.
With that said, summer is no longer the crazy packed time of year that is used to be. I went to Disney at around those dates last year and found the crowds to not be bad at all. My inlaws then went in October and said they were awful.

Since it is August, I doubt it will not be crowded, but you may get lucky. We just left from 4th of July and it was not as crowded as usual. I haven’t been in August for a while because of the heat, but based on how it was this trip I don’t think it will be as crowded as the opening of GE. I think people are holding off until it opens. Have fun! :)

It will be crowded but not insane. We'll be there around that time too. I don't plan on us visiting DHS this trip but my FP+ choices at 60 days were really a breeze, we were able to get everything we wanted. As for DHS, it may be higher than normal with people trying to cram in last min trips before SWGE but I think for the most part it will be the same overall level at the parks.

We are going 7/29-8/4 and had no issues doing some changes to ADR's last week. Also, with the exception of FOP and SDD, have been changing my FP as we decide to do things. I did get FP for FOP and SDD at 60 days, but haven't modified those. While busy, I don't think it will be too bad. I am going in expecting normal summer crowds (which usually aren't that bad), and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I wasn’t able to

I wasn’t able to get SDD but I was able to get the others that I wanted. (I’m still looking to see if any pop up for that.) Usually we buy the tickets a few days before we get to the parks, so this was the farthest out I’ve ever booked FP.

I’m hoping for that too. We were at DHS the day before toy story land opened last year, so I’m looking forward to seeing that. We’ll be there at RD our first day and I just want to have realistic expectations of how jammed it’ll be. We are traveling with 9 newbies to Disney and I was a bit concerned how the RD experience was going to go with them. I feel better about things after reading up on it on these forums. I have my plan and as long as everyone does what I have planned it’ll be ok lol!

I agree that it will be less crowded based on the availability of rooms/ADRs/FPs. But I’m not convinced it’s GE. I think a lot of it is rising costs and the fact that July/August is the hottest time of the year. If I’m going to plunk down the kind of money it takes to go to Disney now, I definitely want to be as comfortable as possible. And I live in the Deep South. You couldn’t pay me to slog through Disney in August.
