I think they very well might - or could - do one. Of course, we never know until it happens because it's not announced, but my guess is that if they get the overlay done a bit ahead of schedule, and the CMs test it out to make sure it's good to go, it might open on the 16th, possibly. Last year I don't think there were any soft openings that were reported here on the DIS. I would hover ominously around the HM area on the 16th as much as possible. What time do you leave? Early or late?
The actual start of HalloweenTime is 9/17, so if HMH opens on the 16th, that will be a soft opening, I suppose.
See, my guess - assuming that DLR has the whole overlay process finely tuned by now, after so many years of doing it - was that they could whip out the HMH fairly quickly.
Therefore, I really was not expecting them to close down HM before a major holiday weekend to start the transformation. I would have assumed that at the latest they would shut HM down immediately after Labor Day ended - like 9/7 or 9/8 or so - or at the earliest, if it had to be pre-Labor Day, then possibly on 9/1 or 9/3. The fact that they are shutting it down on August 30th (with a goal of a HalloweenTime start date on 9/17) seems kind of early-ish to me. So I'm thinking that because they are closing HM a bit early, they may very well be able to do a soft opening this year if all goes well with the installation. Of course, I could be completely wrong - wouldn't be the first time - but it could be possible for the 15th. You never know. It's certainly happened before at DLR - the soft openings - so it's not out of the realm of possibility!
