Do you think DVC would let members who have a few points left over donate them?

A member could do this on their own by hosting the reservation in their account. I doubt DIS or DVC would allow any advertising of such though.

Not really, unless DVC made some exceptions. The one transfer rule would keep an individual from accumulating small amounts of points. The second issue would be multiple resorts and/or use years.

An individual/individuals could set up a not-for-profit organization to accumulate and administer the points rather than Disney taking it on. However, to be truly effective Disney would need to allow multiple transfers in to the not-for-profit's account for more effective use of "leftover" points.

I suggested this approximately two years ago but never heard back from anybody. Perhaps it would be worth pursuing a bit more aggressively, as it still remains an intriguing idea...

Again, this would not be without some costs that would be passed to the general membership. And with a one transfer per use year rule, it likely isn't possbile to legally make exceptions for one entity (Make a Wish) without allowing unlimited transfers for members. Remember, timeshare operations fall under different laws and are regulated by the state.

Sorry, Chuck S, missed this somehow before I posted. I agree this is a hurdle - not sure if Disney has the right to make exceptions or not.

They could do it, just not on a large scale.

We wouldn't be donating the points for a tax write-off...OK, that wouldn't be our first thought.;) The thing is, so many of us have points that just end, when our new use year begins. I have 14 points in holding that will run out in about 3 weeks. It would be so nice to give them to Make a Wish, and if several of us donated a few points here and there, a lot more sick kids would be able to go to Disney World. It seems like such a waste for those points to just slowly die away, when they could do so much good. All the airlines manage to let us frequent flyers donate some of our points to charities.:goodvibes it seems like Disney could manage it, too.:rolleyes1

Well put. Kind of like restaurants and grocery stores turning over their almost expired food to a food bank. Just makes sense. Let transfers to MAW be exempt and I'm sure MAW would be happy to pay a fee to cover the administrative costs for a minimum transfer. It could be worked out to be a win win situation.

They would need a membership to receive the transfers, besides having the transfer limit exemption. Should DVC give them a membership, and pay the maintenance fees? Would that cost also be passed onto all members?

No matter how it is accomplished, there will be expenses to DVC/Disney AND the DVC Membership at large. I doubt the state would allow it.

I don't truly believe this will ever happen. Mainly the legal ramifications with the state as you mention. I agree about the membership, but that is just pennies in the scheme of things and I would bet MAW would gladly purchase the membership and pay the MFs on the points it owns. I am sure there would be a way to technically and amicably work this out between the membership, Disney, and the charity, but it is the legality I see as the problem. Oh well... I'm a dreamer. :upsidedow
