Do you think DL's Haunted Mansion will get the digital ghosts this year?

It's been about a year since WDW's Haunted Mansion unveiled the new digitally animated, interactive hitchhiking ghost effects during the mirror scene in the Haunted Mansion (Hitchhiking Ghosts pop your head off and blow it up like a balloon, etc.). I was convinced that at some point last year, DL's Haunted Mansion would quietly go down for a week-long refurb, and emerge with the same effects, but it hasn't happened.

Do you think this will come to Disneyland any time soon, or is it going to be a WDW exclusive for the foreseeable future?

The locals and loyalists who make up the majority if Disneyland's guests would scream bloody murder if Disney tried to bring this gimmicky effect to Anaheim. It's not happening.

I figure if it's going to happen it would be during the downtime that the Holiday overlay goes up or down.

Though immediately I think there are other attractions that will get some upkeep first, and other e-ticket work in DL too.

I am with you OP. I love the effect and I hope it comes to Disneyland.

I like it too. I know it wasn't there on the day it opened, but the same goes for a lot of effects in THM.

Awesome we are going in October and i hope they have this!

I would like to keep it the way it is, I think Disney has enough on their collective minds with Carsland. Not a local.

I loved the effect at WDW, but I prefer to keep DL as is. Same goes for the interactive queue. I think the house would look very weird with huge crypts in front.

I loved the effect at WDW. The creativity of that effect is amazing! I've heard that they can't do it here because there is not enough room for the projectors and other equipment. Our HM is very compact and there just isn't room without the equipment peeking through the back wall into another scene. (or at least that is what I was told.)

I checked YouTube and that effect creeps me out.

Of course, it's the Haunted Mansion, so I can't say it wouldn't be appropriate :flower3: but I like the old ghosts better, personally.

I like knowing there are some differences between the 'same' rides at WDW and DL so I hope they don't bring it to DL. I'm also a traditionalist, by nature, so I don't want it messed with. LOL

It's a good effect and one of the best reasons to visit HM in MK, which otherwise pales to the DL version.

I agree. The only part of MK's HM I really liked was the "footsteps" room. (and just because I'm a fan of Escher)

If a purist believes the Haunted Mansion or Disneyland for that matter should not be changed.

“[Disneyland] is something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing, keep plussing and adding to. It’s alive. It will be a live breathing thing that will need changes. A picture is a thing, once you wrap it up and turn it over to Technicolor, you’re through. . . . I wanted something live, something that could grow, something I could keep plussing with ideas, you see? The park is that.”—Walt Disney

I love that room! It reminds me of the Goblin King's castle in Labrynth!
While I loved the effect when we were in Florida, I don't think it fits stylistically with the rest of the mansion. It was overly cartoonish. (we had one of the ghosts standing upside down on my dd's head.) It might fit better with the holiday overlay, but not Haunted Mansion proper.

I'm of the mind where I can understand how a purist might hate the idea of digital ghosts, because it's new technology, and not representative of the Mansion when they were kids. On the flip side, my 11 year old niece has ridden both the DLR and WDW versions and feels that the digital ghosts are much "funner" than the static sculptures: an opinion which caused me to create this thread in the first place.

I would consider myself more of a purist when it comes to DL, but I cannot deny that the WDW HM effect at the end of the ride is amazing. Besides The Magic, The Memories and You projected on the castle, it was the biggest surprise of my recent visit to WDW. Those ghosts took off my head and switched it with my buggy mate - we were hysterical! I will be ok with it not coming to DL, but I hope all of you DL visitors get an opportunity to see it at WDW!

Cheers!
