Do You think DISNEY has gone down hlll the last few years?

the DP will surely rise, as it has been each and every year, to overinflate the whole value of the plan.

I started a thread stating just that. the price for the DDp in 2011 will be $45.99 per adult. I said that way the amount of money "saved" using the free dining will sound like so much more.

but most of the posters just siad things like ..well, if it's not good for you, don't do it.. and.. debated the
worth" of the DDP, missing my whole point.;)

I don't know for FACT ~ but I HEARD from a massive complainer in the hot tub at Beach Club (the DVC section) that it was outsourced. His complaint was that they were painting the building :scared1: WHILE he was there. Then he proceeded to tell me they are there every other WEEK and the previous trip was a month long. Um so when are they SUPPOSED to do maintenance. He seemed to think it was because it was outsourced.

we just stayed at BCV while they were painting. and while I was a bit disappointed, I know they have to paint SOMETIME! and it really wasn't too bothersome (except when they closed the beautiful DSA!) we thought it was still very pretty.
this was not one of the things I observed(NOT complained) related to disney going downhill. refurbishments have to happen, obviously.

I don't mind when I see an area being refurbished because I agree that it is necessary. I admit that I was a bit thrown when I saw how much was being done all at once in MK though. Is it necessary to do so much all at once? MK looked pretty bad IMO.

I can also understand why Disney posts a range for buffet prices now but I don't agree with there being surcharges. Those buffets are a bit outrageously priced even at the lower end so the surcharge is just adding insult to injury. We just deal with it by avoiding buffets now but our absence won't matter I'm sure.

I agree that the food selection at WDW has taken a nose-dive in the last few years. Couple that with the prices going up and eating in the parks is something I've chosen to avoid for the most part.

So, I eat off-site most of the time. It's not rocket science. If you're happy with the selection, quality and price - eat there. If not, don't.

And San Angel Inn doesn't serve Tostitos. I like Tostitos and buy their chips on a regular basis. I also like San Angel Inn and eat their chips. Not the same thing. Whether or not someone likes either (or both) of them is a matter of taste, but they're not serving Tostitos chips.

Actually during Peak Season it will be $47.99/pp. The first time we got the DP to try it out, it was $34.99/pp with appetizers and tips included. Hubby and I both knew it was a marketing ploy, as not only was that a cheap price, but you got several other items (tips and appetizers). The new prices are very high, but not so high if they keep raising menu prices.:thumbsup2 Since Disney is in control of this cycle, only they know what guest threshold levels are. My feeling is that guest threshold levels are much higher when the DP is part of a MYW package, as they actually don't see the cost of the DP. They have to do a bit of research to get that amount. If you paying for a once in a lifetime trip, you won't mind a few extra dollars here and there. If you are going during Free Dining, you don't care at all, as menu prices don't pertain to you. It is a big deal to those of us who pay cash, but I think that us cash guests are less than package guests.

As the post stated, they used to use Tostitos, but no longer do. :thumbsup2

I don't think it's just buffets. The website also posts price ranges for a la carte restaurants. These are not subject to the "peak" surcharges.

I thik the cost was $5 and hour in July for the tubes at storm along bay. and you can only bring your own if they are clear.

Hi Smidgey-

I was there in July, I think it was $5.00 for 4 hours or $10.00 for the whole day. Kinda steep. The noodles were sold for $5.00, but you can buy the same noodles at Walmart for a buck! LOL!

Hi TDC Nala!

So, you're saying that there are SUR-CHARGES for the ala cart menu's. i.e. hamburgers, salads etc?

Thanks!

I believe I said the a la carte menus are NOT subject to the surcharges. The point is that Disney is using price ranges for all the restaurants. So the move to price ranges on the Disney website is likely not due to the fact that they are using peak surcharges for buffets. I believe it is to prevent Disney from having to field questions about why the price AT the restaurant did not match the exact price on the website.

A la carte restaurants can raise their prices at any time also. Restaurants quite often raise their prices, and not just at WDW. If you order from an a la carte restaurant it would fall within a range anyway, as the price you pay there depends on what you order.

I just came back from Disney for the Night of Joy weekend. I had some great customer service at the Tomorrowland snack place under the People Mover. I wanted some diet coke in the sports bottle(list price $4.99) and a cream cheese pretzel(list price $4.69). There weren't any pretzels,so I said just the sports bottle drink. The cashier said $5.75. I said that's not right, there wouldn't be 76 cents tax on a 4.99 item,it should be 5.34. The manager came over and looked at the register and said that they had no control over the register, and that's what it said. I said that the outside price said $4.99 and there was no way that there would be a 76 cent tax on a 4.99 item. He then said something like here it's free, thank you for bringing the sign to our attention,we'll bring it to the attention of higher ups. So the upshot is I got the soda for free. Pretty nice!!

Thanks for the info smidgy.I have made my feelings on this particular ploy known so I won't add anymore fuel to the fire.

Looks like another way Disney is nickel and diming the guest/customer. It seems as though Mickey will NO LONGER walk around Chef Mickey's to mingle with the children. He will only be a the podium before check in for pictures, that YOU the guest will have to pay for! They will take your picture with Mickey, then arrive at your table with the photo along with a price of $29.99! How ridiculous is this?

Apparently you can take the photo with Mickey with your own camera if you wish, so it isn't necessary to pay the $30 unless you want to. That doesn't change the fact that if this is a permanent change, Mickey will no longer come to your table.

Hi TDC Nala!

I haven't been to Chef Mickey's since 1989! LOL! I think it was called something else not sure. But I thought it was in a room with walls, not in an open area where it is now. I do remember getting shots with Goofy though! Are they (Goofy and Donald etc.) at CM's now, or is it just Mickey? Do you happen to know?

thanks!

LOL! My 5 year old thinks those pictures are "a ripoff"

She is so funny. She would be pretty ticked not to have Mickey come to her table. We will be skipping Chef Mickeys until that is remedied ~ which I am sure it will be. I mean he is THE main attraction! Pfft.
