Good post brunette! I agree with you on all your points!I'm glad to see a fellow diser who loves the parks like I do has some of the same concerns.Hopefully they address some of these issues before too much damage is done!:thumbsup2

Thanks Flcx! I thought you would like that!;)

Brunette, I agree with you! Sorry I missed you, I just got back as well :)

One thing I noticed from your post is that you used the word "customer." I think that is it. Walt Disney built the company on the idea that we weren't customers but "guests" and now that has changed. Many of us are mourning that loss. Any company can put profit first, but that is not the kind of thinking that made Disney great.

Hi lululovesDisney!!! I am so sorry we missed each other! We would love to have a huge DIS meet maybe again next year! Everyone we met was so nice and it was so enjoyable! LOL!:)

Good points. I totally agree. The Walt Way has really been diminished. Thanks for your post.

You can say the same thing about Disney's ME though.

Not really. I do not think $100 saving is enough factor to stay onsite. Those who rented car before for the lenght of their stay, still do it and for those like me, who doesn't really leave property unless we do a day at Universal, ME is just a good perk that saves us some $$.

I think ME is a win-win if you fly. No need to worry how to get to WDW for the guest-Disney captures you onsite! Yes, you can leave but without a car it's just a pain (in my mind anyway) I do think it cuts down on cars arriving in WDW-parking is somewhat better since ME. We drive and have never used it but if we did fly we would use ME and not rent a car.

OMG, why thread have to turn into battle. Why OP has to feel the need to repeat her point and defend her right to feel the way she feels after 29 pages. Seriously, why? I am not agree with all points of OP, infact I am not agree with most of them but this is my opinion just like she has her. Why would we need discuss why she or me or anyone else feels the way we feel? We feel the way we feel because we are not a single brain and disagreement is great, it actually brings our points a bit closer as we understand the other side. All we need is to listen. :hippie:

You chose to ignore the on topic discussions.
Not at all. I chose to reply to them presenting my opposing perspective on what was posted. I'm sorry if some folks would have preferred the thread include only comments that agreed with your perspective.

I think ME is a win-win if you fly.
I agree. Magical Express is a big enhancement. The fact that Disney doesn't charge for it (yet) is even more wonderful. We also need to consider the baggage service, both incoming and home-bound, to be fantastic new enhancements. Very few other destinations offer such travel-oriented amenities.

Excellent point. Reading through your many responses however, I think I agree more than disagree with you but there are differences. I love your noting of how these disagreements help us "understand the other side". Cool folks like you are a pleasure to talk to. I further like the way you defended the OP author even though you disagree with her. That takes class!

We have driven to WDW only once in many years. We take the O'Dark 30 flight...gone to WDW before the birds are awake!

To us, however, ME is just one more bus - and we do not like WDW busses. For those of us who prefer to do just about ANYTHING other than take one more Disney bus it actually means our holiday is restricted.

We always take a rental car....faster TO WDW....and faster AT WDW. We are on vacation....if we want to visit friends offsite....we have a car......we decide we want to see one of the last space shuttle launches from the beach.....we have a car (have seen 4 launches on disney trips, by the way)......want to try a hot (and the hot ones are no longer on property) new restaurant we heard about.....we have a car.

To us....ME = being trapped.....but just our opinion.

For those unable to afford a car rental or enjoys the experience of a disney bus....I think it's great it's available to you.

Yes, and Disney really wants you trapped there! It's win win mostly really for WDW, but it does help out the people flying and wanting to just stay at WDW. We always have a car and we rarely leave except for minor trips to a liquor store or grocery.

I mentioned before, on page 4 or someplace in this mess, that I don't believe Disney is going downhill. Somethings can be improved upon, and I think they are definitely trying. "Downhill" isn't really the word for it. Although it represents this thread very well. More like "slipping".
Disney, as a business, is definitely trying to make as much money as they can. And if they didn't, they wouldn't be able to do things like expand Fantasyland, refurbish attractions, do something about the eyesore across the lake from Pop Century. Then we'd just be complaining about how nothing is new and it's all the same old c***. Although, there was the thread where people complained about attractions of the past. Nothing is ever going to make everyone happy all the time.

Kelly, great post. I totally agree!

If you break down price of staying off site, it will not be cheaper then on site. Offsite hotel do not provide same level of transportation, it is scheduled, no midday breaks and you are guaranteed to stand and not to sit since there are realy limited buses. I stayed off site, I know. If you want have anytime access like Disney transportation, then rent a car, pay for hotel parking, park parking, gas and see what will be cheaper after all. I counted. For big families, it is better to stay off site at one of the villas, it will be cheaper then getting more then 1 room, even with a car but if you need only 1 room, Disney will come out cheaper. As for perks, ME was added relatively recently and it does save some money for onsite guests. Extra hours are worth playing. DP, well, you will need to eat anyway, some people find it worth, I prefer to eat on my own, but point is people like it. I do not think I know of any vacation destination that will feed you for free, ALL- INCLUSIVE options are usually overpriced. With this being said, I beleive onsite guests have enough perks.

good post jeff! we can agree to disagree. MOST of the posters here (like you) can do so.

!

well, I guess you can only go "downhill" if you are slipping. semantics here.

hubby and I LOVE disney. just returned from a July trip. going again in dec.

just becasue we keep returning doesn't mean we like "everything" going on. and no, you can't say, "well you keep coming back... so.... they are doing things right..."

last year, hubby Nebo started a thread much like this. listed a number of things we were disapointed with. (no more frozen coke at POP, we made a point to visit CSR hotel for their FF, which were repalced with crappy thin fries, much fewer dancers, etc. between the floats in Spectro, many more, too many to mention.)

little things, that only seasoned disney veterans would notice.
I can't beleive they keep raising the prices in this economy. I don't CARE if it's a business... DO NOT quote me and quote stock prices....I know the whole "what the market will bear" theory. please, I do NOT want a lesson in economics 101!!!!!!

whew! that "disclaimer"..:rotfl: out of the way...

It is MY OPINION (the OP asked for Opinions, I think it is still "her" thread")...

many people keep going because they "just, gol'darn it" love it. but we still see the "slipping" in many things.

that is what this thread is about. these various "slippings"
like how long is that wonders of life pavilliongoing to sit empty. and what a great topic! don't even get me started on the "lack of Imagination" Pavillion.

I see it the most in the little things. the lack of cleanliness. I used to BRAG about how clean disney was compared to six flags, cedar point, Indiana beach, etc etc.
the ashtrays are over flowing (of course, it doesn't help that they eliminated half of the DSAs), there is garbage, wrappers, on the street (disney did a study on how far someone will walk with a scrap of paper before throwing on the ground, and situated the trash cans accordingly) but now, they are overflowing.
water fountains not working.(sorry, hubby has to take a blood pressure pill and shouldn't have to wait inline for free water at a CS)
cursory cleaning of the rooms (still good, MUCH better than the Knight's Inn on the way down:rotfl:) but lots of dust under the beds, yucky whatever in the drawers, rings in the tub, toilet etc.) nothing I would call and complain about, but many do. just not"up to Disney par" which was "ALWAYS above and beyond" in the past. Disney spoiled me .. in the past... it was EXCELLENT!!! now it's acceptable.
one of the biggest disappointments is the CMS. I bragged to all my friends.. "at disney, you could stay at a value resort and still be treated like royalty!!!"
" in the parks, you look all ragged from a hot day, sweaty, etc. and any CM will treat you like you are the queen of england!"
now, I am NOT a high maintainence person. that is why it surprised me so much!
as a server, I never give a customer an "eye roll" no matter how busy I am. if a customer asks me for something, I never say "Yeah, I'll get to it in a minute!!! I'm busy right now!"
but the CMS, used to always be there (I don't mean in the restaurants, the servers there have been great) to answer your questions, or else find you the answer. numerous times in the past 2 years, WE ask a CM a question, and they act like "how should I know? not my job"
there was a Cm standing at the dock at BW for the whole purpose of telling you where the boat will go next. the CM replied "It goes to the Swan, and I think , maybe the Dolphin, too" :confused3 (for those who don't know, it's the same stop) another CM (at the store)told hubby the store opened at 9 AM. we like a newspaper. so he went down at 9 am and all the papers were gone becasue it o[pened at 8am.
the fountains at epcot was shut down for refurbishment. we asked a Cm at the gate "any idea when the fountain will be reopening?" answer.. "what fountain?"
I know, I know, you will tell me they were new, didn't know, etc etc.
my point being, it USED to be that CMS were always there to help you, and if not, lead you to the correct answer.

at a Counter service that served coffee "where can I get TEa?" " gee, I don't know." me, "can you find out?" answer "I have no idea".

all these may seem like silly little things (and they really are) but this is just a FEW of MANY we have encountered in the past 2 years.
I could go one and on.
many, many little things we have noticed that have gone "downhill" since we fell in love with Disney. and yet, the prices keep going up, up up.
can they keep cutting down on "service" and keep raising the profits? should I keep spending my money there in spite of that? and the merry mayhem that ensues when Nebo and Smidgy stop going to Disney, and their grown children have them committed because they must have "gone off their rocker" and went to Vegas instead!!:rotfl2:

This is a wonderful post and SO true!! I copied it all so some missing the first time will see it. I knew I had to respond when I read on the cleanliness and how you used to brag to others on it!! I did the same. All your points are true and I can add a few! River country and Discovery Island mess (yes I know Discovery Island is a nature habitat - but the falling down buildings) We saw this in full many time during our WL stay and the boat rides back and forth. Also, the unfinished buildings at POP. I would have liked to stay there and have read many great reviews but the idea of the unfininshed and left to rot second half the century turns me away.

ALL your examples are true and what has happened (or not happened) over the years since I first went to WDW in 1976!! I recall thinking the grounds/streets were cleaner than many homes!!

Forgot to write about grown children, yes, mine STILL come with us!! My daughter (and son 2) and her husband (not a Disney person) and my son now 30, love it and also notice the differences. They still talk of the old Journey into Imagination (when that 's what it was and Figment-I have a picture of the 4 - my children and Dreamfinder and Figment on my shelf in the kitchen) and Horizons! The cleanliness as well!! We have taken other vacations - many cross country (including 2 to DL many years ago) and cruises. We have a travel trailer as well now. I'm considering doing something else as well I can go cross country and see the National Parks etc for much less and enjoy it. I LOVE WDW and Disney but things are changing and I do not think an AP will be in the near future once mine expires in Feb. I guess things might change because of the little one but I'm really thinking of it. I sure hope they don't change It's a Small World to include Disney Characters like in DL. That's something I remember from the 1964 World's Fair in NY!

Part of WDW's charm is being able to "relive" the past. My children, DH and I can share the same "Magic" with our grandchildren.

I expect price increases, although sometimes absurd and unreasonable. IMO I don't like some of the "improvements", including the removal of favorite rides and attractions. The decline in quality and service bothers me the most. Disney being "old yet new" is what set them apart. Again, MO.

We love Disney. I just hate seeing it change into "just another amusement park". That's not what put them on top. And, it will be their downfall.. if the decline and lack of vision continues.

Now, if they take away my Dole Whips or change It's a Small World? pirate:

Yes, I agree!! It's a Small World has been changed in DL from what I've read-includes Disney Characters now. I hope that doesn't happen here. We still go with the 'kids 30 and 32" and my new grandson. similar thoughts as you!

Although, I gotta say, as much as I resisted it at the start, I love love LOVE the character additions to small world in Disneyland!! They are done in Mary Blair style and are just cute as can be. It adds a whole new dimension to the ride, IMO, not to mention that I saw several families going on it multiple times because they were trying to find all the characters and had missed some. It's like Hidden Mickeys, really. You don't notice them unless you're looking for them. They're not so pervasive that you think, "Oh ... geez ... look at the characters".

I would love it if they added them at WDW.
