Do you think Dan's account

Okay, I see comments about a thread being "sickening" here.

But has anyone gone to the posts that are objectionable and used the
report.gif
"REPORT THIS POST" button to send a link and an explanation of the bad post to the moderators???

Do that. It will send a link to the problem post to the email inbox of every moderator for that forum. And they will look at the problem post and handle it appropriately.

I haven't seen a single report come through for posts on that thread in the last few days.

Again- with over 11 million posts on the DISboards, the mods are not going to read evey thread, or every post on a 2300 page thread. Posters help police the boards, and you need to do it by using this report function.

So I went to check out the post number that darrose is complaining about here, and find that it's a post by BeattyFamily. And the objectionalbe part is a quote of another post that has (a) already been deleted and (b) already been discussed with the involved posters.

This makes me wonder if a poster who is not a part of the "club" on that thread is trying to intentionally create or prolong strife by quoting the problem post.

Sometimes the problems are not as straightforward as they appear on the surface.

Thanks for the response T&B and WK.

I don't look at the thread because my name is NOT T&B and I don't need to clean out my PMs... :happytv: It sounds like a PM to me though I guess it isn't now that I've been told.

;)

We did have occasional people pop in and ask me why I had such problems with my PM box. :rotfl2: And I'll have to say, it usually is on the verge of full--not because I want it to be, just because that's one of my weaknesses. :teeth:

What was sickening was in that thread they were telling someone they couldn't post in 'their' thread if he/she didn't change their Tag they got from the Tag Fairy as they found it offensive. They kept telling that person to delete it or go away. That they weren't welcome. Others chimed in with "rules around these parts, your thread, your rules...go MAC!" Now, I can go and find the posts in all the 3000 pages and report them but I thought everyone was aware of this as it's been talked about for the past 3 days. It's very childish and mean thing to do to a newbie, IMHO and I personally find it sickening and sad.

That 'test' thread is sickening and I'll bet dollars to donuts it part of what was bothering Dan last night. :sad2:

I cannot believe the posts of the person that was being told to 'get out' of that 'test' thread were deleted. Sickening. :sad2:

Plenty of us have received warnings and had our posts deleted or edited leaving the thread intact. At least I know I have! I understand why the moderators gave the "Test thread" the same consideration. Why ruin the fun for lots of people because someone copped an attitude? If the mods deleted or closed every thread because of a bad attitude there would be no threads left!

I didn't say it needed to be deleted or closed, I said it was sickening how they treated a newbie for a tag the tag fairy gave them. They basically told him/her to get out as his/her tag was offensive to them. Others chimed in that it was "your thread, your rules" and so on. Sickening.

Then someone in this thread posted that the poster who was being harrassed for their tag line had some posts deleted but none of the others in that thread's posts were deleted so I was also responding to that information.

I never suggested it should be locked or deleted; just gave my opinion of what I think of that situation/thread.

Somebody higher up knew about it because the tag fairy gave him a new tag over the whole thing.

What was the tag? I accidently posted on the last one to post thread because I thought it was a game. oops

Something along the line of being a thread "assassin" I think, I can't remember exactly but I've seen this tag line before on a couple of others DISers. I thought nothing of it. Oh well.

Sorry, my bad. There were many other people who were calling for the deletion or locking of the Test Thread because of what happened. The thread that popped up complaining about it was removed and some people thought that the Test Thread deserved the same.

Think about this: We currently have over 100,000 registered members, and over 11 million posts. We have a pretty small number of moderators.

I've always wondered if you have counts on the number of active posters. Since so many people re-register and have multiple names, how many members are really here? Do the numbers reduce if someone has been deactivated as a member or if someone chooses to resign membership?

If a lot of people are questioning consistency and favoritism, I would think it's a problem. If you believe your practices are not intended to be such, more communication can be done to change those perceptions.

Although specific membership numbers are proprietary, I can say that the number of posters with multiple accounts is insignificant. Members who have been banned (you can't really resign), are included in the count, but are also an insignificant number. (Sometimes it seems like there are a lot of them, but I think that's because they generally make a lot of noise before they get the boot. :teeth: )

And that the majority of members are "active" if you define that as having recently posted. Not too long ago, posters with no posts who hadn't logged on recently were deleted from the database, and are not included in the count.

Generally, the people questioning it are those who've gotten away with attacks or profanity in the past and are angry when they get caught.

You know- "What? You never told me it was a problem before? And so-and-so said the same thing on another thread, so you must be playing favorites."

And I think communication is what we're doing right now. :)

Not to mention after.... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Look, I dont want to get banned and I am sure that there must have been more stuff that went on behind the scenes that I can possibly know about. All I am saying is that for one side of the issue the whole thread(s) were deleted with the opposing side thread "tidied" up by deleting the offending post. On the surface that makes it seem like the mods approval on one sides position over the other.
Also, I am sadden by the accusation that I am trying to prolong strife because I dont belong to that club. That was not my intent of speaking up
but it does remind me why one shouldnt speak out.
So I will go back to just trying to get Hentob a tag. ;)
