Do You Think 9:00 PM Is Too Late To Call Someone?

wow what a difference in this generation. I call anyone till 9 or 9:15 like a soccer calling tree etc. Friends I know we will call much later and my sister always calls up to about 11. Does anyone else remember when long distance didn't even get cheap until 11PM?

As for the other end of the spectrum- how early is too early- that is another case of knowing the person...

For the mornings, my general rule is: if I don't know you, I won't be calling you before 10:00 a.m. If you are my best friend and I know you wake up NLT 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday, then I might give you a call at 9:00 a.m. if I've got something to tell you.

Nights - 9 p.m. for us (9:30 p.m. if it's somebody that we know extremely well that we know is okay with our calling at that time).

Mornings - not before 10 a.m. (and probably not before 10:30 a.m.).

In my house its 11:00pm! Any calls after that means someone is dead!:scared1:

What generation are your referring to Hannathy? For the record, I'm an old lady!;)

We don't like calls past 8pm. We also don't like calls before 8am.
Never fails that if a survey is calling they call between 8:30pm and 9:00pm.

Me, too! My parents drilled it into my head that it was rude to call past 8pm. Even if I know a friend stays up later than that, I still have a hard time calling, it just feels wrong. Now that I have young children, we're trying to get them into bed by then, so I don't want to be on the phone then anyway.

Don't be embarrased!

I won't call someone's home after 8pm unless you're my sisters or my dad. But I won't call anyone else.

I really don't want you calling my home after 8pm unless you're my sisters. I don't even want my dad callin because he's usually well drunk by then.

As far as the AM, I don't like to call someone until after 9AM. It was hard for me when I was working and our office would open at 8AM. My boss would say give Mr. So and So a call and let him know his order has come in. If it wasn't a business, I never felt comfortable calling them.

I don't mind calls until 9pm unless its a close friend/family..and unless its an emergency the phone shouldn't ring after 10pm (unless its DH who only uses the cell LOL). Yes, I am still up, but I guess it was the way we were raised..everyone in my family panics if you call after 10pm like life shuts down at those magic numbers.

You can't be that old... I'm 29 and I still think the 8am-9pm rule should work (weekends differing). So not sure how much of a generational thing it could be!

I'm okay with calls up to 9 if it's important. I don't call anyone after 8 unless it is important. If the phone rings after 9, I'm scared someone's been in an accident or in the hospital.

I'm with you Christine. Unless it's something that "can't wait", I don't like to take calls past 7:30 pm because it's right when i'm getting the kids ready for bed.

I'll call someone after the kids are in bed, but I generally don't call anyone late at night unless it's expected or it's something that needs immediate attention, not a phone call to a friend's mom about a playdate for next week.

I would call someone I didn't know until around 8:30, and family members up until 9:00 if it's important.

Considering I grew up where I was not allowed to receive phone calls after 9 PM, that is a bewitching hour in this house.

HOWEVER, I *have* made calls past then if necessary. I don't like to do it but sometimes will. Not usually to people I don't know though. I know one of my son's moms works at the library that closes at 9 pm, so I figure it's OK to call up to about 9:30ish or so if I have something to tell her. Yesterday her son left his boots in my car. By the time I got done with everything though it was too late to call, so instead I called early this morning which I hate to do just as much but I didn't want them running around the house looking for his boots (It was about 7:35-7:40 AM when I called & since school starts at 8:10, I figured I was *safe* calling then).

I know my DD has a friend that has called at 9:30 before, I have just stated with the no calls past 9 pm for her too but we do let it slide on occassion.

I go to bed at 9pm but I don't think it's too late to call. Most people aren't on my schedule.

After 9pm for before 8:30am somebody had better be dead or dyting if my phone rings. Our business phone rings in the house, but I have told all of our clients that we do not answer the business phones after 8:30pm. I still get the occassional call.

My own family doesn't call after 9pm unless something has happened. My MIL goes to bed at 7pm so it's never her.

HOWEVER, my MIL calls us at 8:15am every weekend when she knows dang well that on Saturday mornings we ALWAYS sleep in.

You better not call my house after 8:00 if you don't know me well. That's my down time.

For myself I would call only friends after 9pm. I do not let my kids call anyone after 8:30pm. If they are friends then i won't call past 10pm
