Do you talk to your pets?

Of course! And sometimes they talk back. When my dog Jack was a puppy and we would scold him and say "NO!" he would bark at us! It was hilarious, but hard to train him while laughing hysterically. I love my pets, they are my family. I agree it would be very odd not to talk to them.

Does anyone here sleep with their pets.

I work midnights and my guy is on my schedule. He waits for me and jumps into bed and just stays there until I get up.

He is my little sentry. Talk about unconditional love.

Our cats sleep with us, but my husband doesn't allow the dogs on the furniture, so they sleep on their own beds. I'm so used to sleeping with the cat up against me, when we were on vacation last month it just felt like somethign was missing. (I work nights too, and my cat sleeps all day with me).

I am talking to mine right now. She was growling at me trying to tell me something. Sometimes it is really hard to know what she wants. So I told her to go get her ball, which she did and now we are playing ball! LOL. I don't think that is what she was trying to tell me, but it worked!! :cool1:

Not only that, but we tend to talk FOR her - telling each other what she is saying! It's a sickness.

:rotfl: I do this all the time!

All the time....I think my dog is the only one who listens to me..................

With my dog, it's usually: go lay down! sit! get! drop it! drop it! DROP IT! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But yeah, I talk to her about other things after she does all that.

My birdy, I talk to her all day. She loves being talked to and whistled at.

The cat, not so much. My DD more than makes up for it, though. :goodvibes

Constantly. And it seems the more that I talk to him, the more words he seems to understand.

Pets are wonderful companions. I know that when my old fella goes (he's 11) I will be bereft, lonely, & heartbroken. I will have lost my dearest non-human companion.

The first half hour of my morning went something like this...

"Belle, no!"
"Belle, stop digging at the carpet"
"Belle, I said no!"
"Belle, go play with your ball"
"Here Belle, here's your ball"
"Belle, NO DIGGING"
"Belle, you are a bad girl"
"Scooter, are you tired?"
"Belle, I said NO!"
"Belle, here's your ball"
"Scooter, do you want a treat?"
"Belle, stop digging at the carpet!"
"That's it, you're back in the cage"

Of course they never answered me back... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Talk to them!?! I practiced Russian on them when I was learning the language. The funny thing was, I'd want to say, "Idee suda, pazhaloosta" and instead I'd say, "Komst du, bitte." That's the problem with knowing a little bit of a bunch of languages. Every time I'd do that, I'd stomp my foot, snap my fingers and say, "drats, wrong language."

No, they didn't understand the Russian or German verisions of "Come here, please."

I'm always talking to my pets. I think it's quite normal because most people consider pets to be part of their families.

We talk to our three dogs all the time...they get a "good morning" every morning, I ask them how their day was when I get home from work...they just sit and watch me making a fool of myself! :rotfl2:

They don't sleep with us though...not that I would mind but I do like my sleep. Two humans and three dogs DO NOT fit in a king size bed! ;)

We also have a Belle (and a Tigger, duh), but they are cats.

Yeah, I never said what I said to our animals. It's usually telling one dog to quit barking, telling the other dog that he's stupid (hey, he doesn't care and still wags his tail :teeth: ). I tell the kittens to get off the counter or to quit scratching on the couch. Or I tell one of the kittens to quit crawling up me when I'm getting his food ready (ow!). I usually talk nicely to my cats--they tend to behave themselves.

Oops, the kitten is sleeping on the table..."Venus, get off the table..."

:rotfl:

I talk to our puppy all the time. In fact, yesterday DD scolded me because dh is out of town and yet she heard me downstairs having a one sided conversation and thought someone was over. Apparently, I don't use "puppy talk" meaning I just speak to her in a regular conversational tone. :teeth: I also discuss tv shows with her. :teeth: She's the only dog I've had that will actually watch tv for several minutes at a time.

We call the puppy Chewbacca sometimes because she talks like him A LOT. She's very chatty.

I talk to mine all of the time. Roswell will answer back when she's being scolded - she makes a trilling noise like she's saying "but Mom...."

This just came flying down the stairs meowing at me

I thinkhe thought he was home alone..Now he is happily purring in my lap and we are having our morning chat.

I talk to my bird all of the time. And sometimes he "talks" back. :)

Oy, all the time.

"Mommy wuvs her wittle baaaaaabies... Yes, sheeee does! Yes, sheeeee does!" :crazy2: :teeth:

You mean there are people who DON'T talk to their animals?

PS...white cats....while genetically deaf....also have the genetic ability to read lips....

:cat:
I usually can get him to "come" by tapping the floor. Then when he comes to see what the noise/vibration is, I make his hand-sign to "come here" :teeth: .

agnes!
