Do you talk on the cell phone when.....

As far as the OP - yep, I do. But only if I am taking the call and only if I'm in 'safe' circumstances (like if traffic's already stopped, or I'm open-road driving). I'm a man of few words - I try to limit all my calls to as short as possible (a long call for me is 2 minutes), if the call goes on longer than that I'll put on my hands-free headset. The only calls I routinely get on my cell phone are either from KAMommy (we carpool most days so that's usually not an issue anyway) or from the office if there's an emergency.

I usually do..but if im in a traffic or the weather is bad, i hang up.
to me, its no different then having someone in the car to talk to...

The only time I do is I'll dial while at a red light and put the phone on speaker and my conversation is usually "I am 5 minutes away, bye". So many people think they drive just fine while blabbering away on their phones. Newsflash, you don't.

From the AP:
MURFREESBORO, Tenn.

A man who was stopped for driving erratically on a divided highway was distracted because he was looking at pornography, authorities said.

David Kennedy, 33, of Nashville, was charged with felony reckless endangerment after motorist Deborah Dotson reported Friday afternoon that he nearly ran her vehicle off State Route 840 several times.

Rutherford County Deputy Tony Hall pulled over Kennedy based on Dotson's report.

"When I made contact with the driver of the suspect vehicle, a Mr. David Kennedy, there were several pornographic magazines on the seat next to him," Hall said in his report.

A hearing on the charge is set for Feb. 22 in General Sessions Court in Murfreesboro, a Nashville suburb.
I suppose we should all breathe a sigh of relief that at least he wasn't talking on a cell phone. :rolleyes1

Did they also do a comparison as to whether other common distractions in cars are on the same line as cell phones? Like the person that can't find just the right CD or can't find a station with a song they want to hear? Or the person trying to eat a Big Mac while driving down I-95? Or a person smoking who accidentally dropped hot ashes on his pants and his biscuits are burnin'? How about the mom who has a 2 yr old that is throwing a temper tantrum in the back seat because she can't have a Happy Meal and is screaming at the top of her lungs? All distractions. All happen on the road everyday and all are just as dangerous, if not more, than cell phones

I agree that all of those things are distracting as well, but in my area you don't see as many people doing those things as you do people on cell phones. My family has made a game of counting how many people we see using cell phones while driving. Many times half of the drivings we saw were using cell phones.

yes , notr long conversations usally my dd will call just when i am getting out of the parking lot to come home from work with can you get me's

I've passed some people doing some pretty distracting stuff on the road. I've seen several people reading, I saw some guy buzz past me doing about 90 while he was typing away on his laptop that was in the passenger seat, and this beats all - I saw a guy playing a trumpet.
I read somewhere once that there is a huge number of people that, well, let's put it this way - amuse themselves in an adult manner while driving. Talk about a distraction!

It's illegal here to be holding a cell phone and driving - you have to have a hands-free attachement.. Even still, no one cares, everyone is driving, holding their phones and chatting away. There's just not enough police to enforce that kind of thing.

No, I do not. I'm too busy yelling at my kids, scolding my cat who's clawing at my lap, trying to put mild sauce on my burrito supreme while powdering my nose.

Obviously I am kidding, but there are so many wacky things that people do while they are driving that I bet the above paragraph is not that far fetched. Unfortunately.

Maybe they just have better things to do with their time. :confused3

I pretty much work out of my car and talk on the phone while driving all the time. I don't take notes or write while on the phone.

My biggest problem is avoiding people that think they have the right-of-way when turning right on a red light. Or, the guy that almost hit me yesterday when he took a turn too tight in front of me while I was stopped at a stop sign. He had a cell on his shoulder pressed against his ear. In one hand he had a cigarette, in the other hand he had a can of beer.
