Do you switch resorts to avoid the Fri/Sat nights?

We always stay over the weekends. Usually 3 weekend trips per year (thurs - mon) and 1 long trip in january. We leave this thursday for disney and are staying until next saturday - so 3 weekend nights.

We have been VERY successful using priceline. I bid $60.00 on a 4 star resort near Disney and ALWAYS get the Hilton across from downtown disney.

I have had success with this 3 times.

We are going in February and staying at BCV. I am trying to save points for the cruise and am thinking of trying this again.

Hilton gets all of the on-site options (extra hours etc)

Hilton gets all the onsite options? That's interesting. Can you get ME service from there as well? :confused3

No, you can't get ME to the Hilton...nor to Swan/Dolphin or the other near DTD hotels.

Our last 2 trips we stayed at POP on the weekends and DVC Sun-Thurs. Don't think you have this option based on your dates, but we've done it both ways (POP then BCV on 1 trip, then SSR to POP on our last) and if we had the choice we'll always start at the value first. As we're quickly becoming "resort snobs" it's hard to get excited about leaving BCV/SSR and going into POP (although our 5 year-old son LOVES POP and would be happy staying there the whole trip).

The earlier trip we were able to take advantage of a promo that got us upgraded passes (PH and water parks). Although we only need 2 nights at POP, the promo required a 3 night stay so I was able to book a 3 night package with the upgraded pases that was cheaper than only booking 2 nights - on the morning of day 3 we just checked out and had our bags sent to BCV :rotfl2:

That being said - it's hard to go wrong when you know you'll still be at the World !!!!!!

Have a great trip !

We rented points in January and planned on a Sunday-Thursday stay at OKW. Then, airfare started going up for Sunday and down for Friday. We ended up flying in on Friday and staying the first 2 nights at Pop Century. We paid rack rate (:scared1: ) and it set us back $189 total for the 2 nights. We saved over $400 in airfare by flying in those 2 days earlier so we had a longer trip for less money.

Now, the same thing happened when I rented points in October. This time, it was just me and the 2 little ones (ages 3 and 5) and no rental car. The thought of switching resorts was not at all appealing, but the airfare was, again, a much better price to leave on Saturday instead of Sunday. I opted to just eat the cost and rent the points for the Saturday night too. It was easier to stomach when I averaged out the cost per night. I think I paid about $168 per night for a savanna view studio at AKV. I could be wrong, but I know it was better than booking direct.

We are members now and planning a trip in June. I had booked a 1BR value for a Sun-Wed night at AKV since we didn't have enough points to do a full 5 night stay. Airfare got me again! I got a GREAT price ($615 for 4 people) from DTW to MCO but we had to go on Saturday night:headache: . I double checked our points and realized that we still had 20 points to play around with. We only needed 19 for a value studio at AKV, but at 6 months out, I figured they were gone. Nope! So, our flight was going to arrive at 9:30pm and we were just going to crash in that little studio for one night before moving to the little 1BR. Thankfully, our flight got changed and now we arrive at 5:30pm!:yay: Yippee! Time to swim and grab a meal at Mara:love: .

Over the next 40+ years as DVC'ers with a small contract, I don't foresee us switching resorts, but I can definitely see us utilizing a studio at the beginning or end of our vacation. We have to be very creative with our 100 points.:rolleyes1 As a family of 4, we have a lot of options. I have stayed in a 1BR and a 2BR at OKW and a studio at AKV. I can honestly say that I would "tolerate" the studio all the time if it meant that I could go every year. I think we'll be alternating between studio and 1BR stays for annual vacations until the kids are in their teens. Then, we'll have to back down to bi-annual trips in a 2BR...unless DH comes down with a case of addonitis!:rotfl: The Su-Th trips usually work out great for us. If we are going to save a lot on airfare, we might just book a weekend night on cash. It wouldn't happen often enough to justify (financially) adding on enough points to cover weekend stays.

Nope! We look at points for the whole week and we don't want to waste our time moving.

Last month we also saved on airfare by arriving 2 days earlier, got an AP discount for value (Pop) cost us $100.00 + change, for Friday, Saturday night and got an extra 2 days at the World and saved alot of points.
Moving from Pop was easy, called Bell Services they picked up our bags shipped them to OKW and we took a bus DHS then bus to OKW took less the 30 minutes for the whole trip was very easy.:thumbsup2

I admit to trying to get a value villa if I'm staying Friday and Saturday nights, and then move on to where ever. I like AKV a lot, DH not so much, but for the lesser points, he's happy with doing that! I've also booked BW view for weekends, so I am not consistent. I don't mind moving, but not with the DGC. When they're with us, we've stayed, and will stay in 2 bedrooms so we don't have to move.
