Do you swim in January at Disney?

Question says it all. Considering a January 2010 trip and surprising the kids with it Christmas morning. Wondering how much to factor in pool time when choosing our resort. Either value or mod. Thanks!

We did! We were at Pop one year the first week of Jan. We swam at night, the pool was heated... it felt wonderful, but it did make for a very chilly sprint back to the room! I don't remember how cold it was at night, but it was 85 degrees during the day!

You can as the pools are heated and operate year round, it just depends on how the weather is. I've lived in Central Florida for 10 years and the weather in January can be in the 80's or it can be in the 60's.

I did a few years ago! I had taken my niece towards the end of January and they were having a heat wave. It was in the high 80's during the day and not much cooler at night. We swam several times during that trip.

If it is cooler out the pools are heated. Two years ago we went the first week of December and the kids went swimming even though it was a bit chilly out.

I have been several times in January and February, and we have always been able to swim. Some days you may not want to lay out by the pool, but the pools are heated. Usually only one water park is open, but they are also heated and pretty empty, the kids loved it. I can get pretty cold at night (once into the 30s) so bring some warm clothes too.

It depends. 2 Jans ago it was so warm and beautiful so we did. This Jan (09) it was soooo cold. high temps were 58-60 so no swimming!

We did!:goodvibes

We were there Jan 20-27 this year. Our trip started off cool - highs in the 50's. . . But ended in the low 80's! All the pools are heated and we spent an entire afternoon at the awesome new CBR pool! :cool1:

I think it depends on where you are from and what type of temperatures you are used to. We are from the Northeast and are in very cold temps during January, so the temps in FL in January feel fabulous. We have been twice in January - once we were able to swim for a couple of days during our trip - once we couldn't (50's during the day just about the whole week).

We were there Jan 20-25 this year and it was freaking cold, 20's at night and 50's in the day with frost on the ground! The last full day we were there it reached 72 as a high so we spent the day at the Poly pool, thank goodness the water was heated but when a breeze hit ya and you are wet we did get a chill going.

LOL - yep! We were there during the same timeframe - granted, it was supposed to be unseasonably cool - but HOLY COW!!!

 Us too! I was VERY COLD from about the 20th through the 23rd!! :cold: But nothing us Pennsylvanians couldn't handle! :rotfl:

I was glad it warmed up after that though. It was right around 78-80 that Saturday and we finally got to swim! :goodvibes

We are from a warm weather climate and have been to WDW for 10 of the past 11 Januarys. We've had one vacation where it was warm enough even for us to swim every day and we've had one where it was too cold every day. The other stays have had at least one day where it was tolerable for us to get in the water.

We always go with the plan to swim but are not heartbroken if it turns out to be too cold.

Don't revolve your trip around being able to go swimming (in other words, I wouldn't spend the extra money for say the Yacht/Beach Club pool if that is the only reason you would spend that amount of money).

We love this time of year, but there have definitely been years where we needed hates, scarves, gloves (the whole nine yards)...and we are from Massachusetts! There have also been times where it was 85 and sunny.

But I never really felt the need to go swimming as it was never that hot, or even that warm for too long. Almost every evening we wanted sweatshirts, so by the time we got back to the resort we weren't thinking about swimming. I did use the hot tub before, but like another poster said, it makes for a really cold run back to the room!

I would, however, pack bathing suits. I would also pack some fleece coats, gloves, and hats (you may not need them, but if you do you will be sorry!!! i.e. spending unnecessary money at the gift shop):goodvibes

We (ok, mostly the kids) swam this January several days we were there. The heated pools were fine so long as the sun was shining. Locals looked at us like we were nuts, some even told us so. It all depends on perspective. It was 6 degrees when we got on the plane to Orlando, 75 and sunny felt like just the right temp for a swim. Oh, and a hint, we hopped into the hot tub for about two minutes to superheat ourselves for the sprint! Worked great!

Yes we have gone swimming a few times in January. Of course the chance for colder weather is greater this month but we have been lucky to experience warm weather too!

We swam in Jan this year, there were a few bitter cold days and some really nice days, the weather can be very mixed :)

We were there from Jan. 3-10, 2009. There was only one cooler/rainy day. The rest of the time it was in the high 70's, low 80's - that's beach weather to us New Englanders! We spent the last day before our flight at the pool and it was delicious!

hahah yep that's what I was talking about...I felt like I was at home in NY not FL!

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm from New England so I can tolerate some pretty cool temps but even I wont swim if it is 20 degress out lol :)

I think I'll book a value if we go and save the nicer pools with slides for warmer weather when we go in August 2010. Thanks!!
