Do you still use floppy disks?

I was looking at computers recently and I noticed more of them are coming without floppy disks! I rarely use mine, unless I have to turn in schoolwork.

So does anyone still use floppy disks on a regular basis?

Yes, I still use floppies to transfer files between computers and to back up some files. I would not sell a computer without a floppy drive. There are still many uses for this "ancient" technology.

I just bought a new computer and opted out on the floppy. The floppy drive didn't work on the old puter so I didn't figure I'd miss it. You don't need the floppy anymore to do a complete reinstall, so to me, it was a waste of money. Only 20 bucks, but still a waste.

we use floppys a lot around here, but we share info back and forth with the rest of the members of a service club we belong to, and 2 of us have cameras that use the floppy as memory card, so we all share floppys often, but when its to be transfered outside our group we will burn the info onto a cd-rw instead because we sent 2 floppys out that were sent back because they were unreadable, we also use floppys to pass pictures of projects we do for customers to the customers for approval before i burn them onto a perm hard disc copy at the ends of the jobs. we try and take daily pics of each design related project that really chanes the look of a room and then pass the pics on to the customer.

Yes...and its harder to find the 3.5" floppies for both my pentium 2 computer and my digital camera. We are going to upgrade eventually and my dh (NC Beast) is a Systems Admin.--how embarrassing.;)

I use CD or DVD for backup usually, but still do have a floppy on my 2 month old Dell. I think it was about 30 bucks extra, well worth it if I need it for even one time.

Give me a floppy any day! It's easy!! File, save...DONE! I can't do that with a CD from what I've been told. I have to "Burn" it! What the heck????? I don't even know where to start to do that!

(And to think that my last boss considered me the "computer expert" in our department! Frightening!!) :scared:

I did until recently, in fact I went out of my way to make sure my lap top had an A: drive....I've needed boot disk before and didn't want to not have the option.

However as of late I've switched to the flash drive, it's just way easier.

I still use my zip drive occasionally but not more than once or twice a year.

Yep yep yep oh yep.......got the digital cam that uses the floppies and I love having it on the computer for quick easy saves. Makes it easier to share info with someone else too.

Is it just me or do the rest of you have trouble typing "floppy disk" though? I keep wanting to type it as "floopy disk"! :p

A what?
I think I have heard of those.

LOL, I have not used one in ages. I actually was not aware anyone used those still.

i stil use floppys to save my writing on...just in case....

NOPE! Ordered our laptop without, just use the rewriteable disc now... much faster and easier.

<font color=navy>I can't remember the last time I used a floppy.

I don't even use my cd rewritables anymore, unless I want to burn a cd for someone else.

I use the USB memory sticks, or flash drives. Mine is only 64mb, but my coworkers use 256mb and even 1 gig. It's so much easier - plug and save -- easier than floppies, in my book, and you don't have to install software --- at least if you use Windows 2000 or XP.

Yes, the little flash drives are great too, have several, 256's. As you say MJ, so easy.

Nope. Bought my last laptop w/ one & never used it. New laptop has no floopy drive.

Nope, no floppies. We have one floppy in DH's PC, but the only time I used it was when I was installing the OS for the first time after building his box.

I still use them. My digital camera, the Sony Mavica, takes the floppy. I love that camera!!!! So as long as I continue to use that camera, I will use floppies.
