Having been to wdw 10 plus times I feel our shopping for little trinkets, shirts, etc have dwindled some.
Plus, kids are teens now and they really don't want for much

so are you like me,,,wanting to buy something new or just happy to window shop & save the money for elsewhere on your trip?

We don't buy any of the 'little' items anymore, but occassionaly I'll get a new sweatshirt or my DW will get a new watch from the World of Disney store at DD. Definitely save a quite a bit not buying lots of little souvenirs anymore.

We also save quite a bit since we don't have 20 rolls of film to get developed anymore. :) My wife has finally convinced me that I CAN have too many pictures of Space Mountain and they really all do look the same as the previous ones. Also, the digital camera is great. No wasted pictures!

Our extra money now goes to new memories like Cirque, Winter / Summerland and a couple extra Table Service meals.

my kids are grown but now that the grandbaby has come along lots of things to buy for her!

Well.... After going on a shopping spree during our trip in July of this year, you would think that I would be done. Then we up and decided that we would go back during October. I reasoned with DH that we could make it a much cheaper trip since we wouldn't need to buy any souvenirs. Wouldn't ya know that as soon as we arrived I started finding all kinds of things that "I just had to have!" So, we're done right, we don't need any more? Then the Holidays in Walt Disney World came on the Food Network... So now we are going back the first week of January. Once again I reason, this will be a cheap trip because we have our annual pass, our room is covered by our DVC points, and we don't need any souvenirs. Right?

Well, my best friend called today. She is in Destin, FL on a business trip. Her meeting got out early and she found some outlet stores. Guess what she had found? A Disney outlet store, now this was not an ordinary outlet store, no no. It was a liqudation center for park merchandise! Everything there was from the parks, not the "Disney Store!" So, she starts walking through the store and describing everything to me. You wouldn't believe how much stuff (that I couldn't even see, mind you) that I just had to have! I realize that I need some sort of Disney support group, you know first admit that you have a problem!

The worst part was that last week I decided that we needed the Train Station at the front of Magic Kingdom to complete our Hotel/Monorail set. So I looked and found one with shipping on eBay for $25. She found it in that store for $6.99!! They also had the Grand Floridian for $20 (if any of you live in the area!).

Anyway my point is, it doesn't matter how much we have, we always seem to want more. But, I think that my desire for this stuff is so that I can feel like I have a part of the Disney magic at home with me! I think that if I lived closer and could go more often that I would be able to do without much easier.

Merry Christmas!
Jana

Chrome64, I so totally understand...
I have really chilled in the last couple of years but occasionally when we go I get hit with, oooo...I just have to have this.
I enjoy thinking about the park, ride, whatever when I see the new found object at home. ;)

I vary. I don't have any kids so it makes thigs easier. In 2002 we were on a budget so I didn't but a single souvenir. Last year I got quite a lot of stuff (mind you DH wasn't there to stop me!). When we went to DLP in April I didn't buy anything. So it varies. When I first went I used to buy loads and loads.

I always start out with the best of intentions.....a new ornament, a resort pin or two or three, a keychain, a mug, a snowglobe, a watch.....then it's all downhill and I have to have more souvies ``in case``we don't come back for a while.

Well my good intentions are back on for our upcoming trip: All I want is perfume from the Norwegian Pavillion in Epcot, an ornament, a pin or 2 or 3.......

I feel like I don't buy anything but I have bags and bags of stuff when I come home????

Not only do I shop when I'm THERE, but my parents live outside of Orlando and I send THEM to buy stuff FOR me!!!!

My last trip in September I charged about $800 to my room. Mind you, that included a few snacks (we were on the meal plan, but at first I was confused and made some mistakes LOL) and some things here and there for my nieces, but the bulk of the items were mine. LOL

I'm a big Tink collector, and I find the best things there. I have a ton of Tink ornaments, snow globes, and figurines. I love going to the Art of Disney store to see what new artwork they have there. I always end up coming home with something new (or several something news!)

Inquiring Minds Need To Know??

Where is this store and what's the name of it?????

I still shop for souvenirs. I can't help myself. I always find something that I want and have to have. Shopping is one of the highlights of the trip for me! :cool1:

I have a list of things I still buy each trip:
Photo album with the year/celebration
Key chain with year/celebration
Charm for my bracelet
Magnet picture from with the year/celebration
5x7 photo
Small snowglobe with year/celebration

Never was into t-shirts or pins.

That's me!!! I try really hard not to buy anything......lasts through first 45 minutes into the parks!!! :confused3 I tell myself that the "gifts" I am buying will be for Christmas or b-days but then when I come home, I discover that I have more "gifts" than I have people for!!! Plus most of it is things that I like and just have to have!!!! My closet is full to the rafters with new luggage that I have bought at the World to bring home these "gifts"!!!! :rotfl:
If anyone knows of a support group,,,please let me join!!! DH would be so greatful!!! :rotfl2:

We don't buy much either anymore. Sometimes an ornament or two, but bacisally that's it. Horror of horrors, we don't take that many pix anymore either. We mostly just relax and enjoy the experience not through our viewfinder! It will be different this time, though because it's DD's first trip, so I'm sure to take tons of pix!!

I live in Florida and have been many many times and I still have to shope.. matter of fact it is one of my favorite parts of the trip!!

Inquiring Minds Need To Know??

Hi, Livi'sMom:

There are stores in Premium Outlets (it is or was a small one) and it's closer to DW. (After we found the other stores below, we stopped going there because it was so limited.)

There are two in the Belz Outlet center (I think that's what it's called. You know how you know where something is so you don't worry about the name anymore?) which is closer to Universal Studios (there's a Universal outlet there too.) There just Disney Stores with real Disney stuff. We found them about five or six years ago and spend very little at the parks on souvenirs now.

I don't what it is about discount prices that makes you go crazy for shopping. :rotfl2:

Our first few times at WDW we loaded up on expensive items like big snow globes, jewelery and the like. The last few we have only really gotten items like t-shirts, hats pens and other small cheaper items. My thing is to buy a new photo album for every WDW vacation.

I've been literally hundreds of times and I still buy a couple of little things. Usually a t-shirt or something. They have teh cutests little shirts right now with little blocks that hold stick figures of mickey or something. I got the one for POtC and it is so cute. It has mickey on a boat and then a pirate ship shoots a cannon ball at them and it goes under his hat and between his head. Too cute :)

I still can't help but be wide eyed in amazement when I'm at Disney and I hope this never changes. No matter how many times I've been, I always find something I love and have to have. I no longer look for small trinkets. It's the bigger stuff I want now. I'll usually a sweatshirt or two and some Disney Art. Since this is DH first trip, I'll add mouse ears, an autograph book, and a fat pen to the list!
