Do you still need a quart baggie for liquids and gels at airport?

They may not have been in prechek. In our several of my recent Airport Security Screening experiences even the non prechek lines have not done the no shoes and 311 Baggie drill. Since the Airport Security Screening authorities don't communicate process stuff "in the interest of safety," there is no way of knowing whether there has been a change in policy or if those Airport Security Screeners were lax and sloppy.

IIRC the 311 rule applies to prechek, it's just that the Baggie gets to stay in your carry on.

To me, that still means you have been shunted to a line USING precheck. Doesn't matter if it's THE pre line or labeled as such. They are using the protocol.

A gallon bag holds a lot :) We never have a problem with one holding everything for our family of 4.

Gallon is too big. 1 quart sized baggie per person in your party. If you're getting away with one gallon bag, you're getting away with it. Might not continue. (just like the person who puts bottles in compartments in the messenger bag)

I once (9/18/01 and the trip home!) had a small flashlight that, when intact, was an oblong shape, but had come apart in my backpack. It looked like a bullet sitting there. Note the travel date. They didn't notice it. They could have; doesn't mean I'm allowed to carry stray bullets with me. :)

Thanks for correcting me :) I do sometimes get mixed up since we don't have quart sized baggies here in Canada. I have a clear pillowcase zippered bag that is about the right size and I use that now.

Gallon bag? Hope you were joking! It's a one quart bag per person traveling. Buzzgirl, don't forget even the kids get a 3-1-1 bag, so stuff 'em all with liquor bottles!

Its so comical how people come online and tell others how wrong their experiences are

There is frequently a huge gap between what is allowed and what one persons was able to get away with. Just because someone doesn't know any better doesn't make their experience the standard to be expected. The posts on this board should reflect the norm, not the one-offs.

Not sure what you're talking about. No one said the poster who stated he/she never put liquids in a 311 bag was lying, just that TSA should have caught this. They will eventually and then this person will get to wait while everything is emptied from the bag and searched. Maybe they will then start following the rules.

Im a very frequent business traveler and just coming on to post my experiences. I know the 311 rule. These are my experiences with screening which may or may not jive with 311 or with your own experiences or with what TSA should or shouldn't do.

Exactly. You are posting your experiences, not what the rules actually are. It is always best to post what the rules are, that way you are not setting someone else up for an ugly surprise.

Maybe some people get away with using a gallon bag instead of a quart sized one. That doesn't mean the next person would get away with it too.

If you're a frequent traveler, you should know that the public doesn't make the rules TSA follows. I certainly don't tell them what to do. I just follow the rules, which makes everything easier (BTW, I have Global Entry, so get TSA Pre). You are free to not follow the rules; it does not affect me.

I'm also a 1K on United, so do travel a bit myself.
