Do you stand perfectly still?

I noticed recently that when I stand up, many times I will start to sway (not a lot---not like a freak or anything), or keep shifting, or something. I can't stand absolutely still for very long. Sometimes I think that after years of holding a baby in my arms I just got used to moving a bit when I stand. I also have a hard time sitting perfectly still for long periods of time. I'm not a hyper person at all, but I just can't sit totally still without moving something, playing with my nails, or wiggling my foot. I was wondering if most people do this? If there is music playing, it's even worse.

I've noticed too when I have to stand straight I kind of sway back and forth. I don't think anyone can help it, trying to stand perfectly still makes me feel like I'm going to faint. I also have ADD and I can't stand standing for too long without moving, I get all twitchy :rotfl2:

I wonder how those 'live' mannequins you see in windows sometimes, or guards stand so still for so long. I'm constantly moving, even if just a little.

My mom blames her swaying on rocking my brother and I to sleep. She claims it's just something she instinctively does now.

i can't stand long without starting to sway, either. i think a lot of people are like that. your muscles just start to get tired and that's what happens.

now sitting i generally have no problems with. i only have to move my right leg every so often because of an injury that i have, but aside from that i don't have issues. my DH has problems sitting still tho. he's either wiggling his leg/foot or tapping on something or picking his fingers....he drives me nuts lol!

I don't think anyone can stand still for a longish period of time without swaying or fidgeting, unless they have specially trained for this. And I assume that that kind of training involves special breathing exercises.

And at least for me, the more I think about keeping myself motionless, the more I just have to sway in the breeze!

In Yoga the mountain pose is practice for standing still. If you stand with your feet together and close your eyes you really notice how much you sway.

I have this problem also but it has only happened in the last few years (I'm 45). I have attributed to declining balance associated with aging (and not keeping myself fit). As another poster said, I think yoga does wonders for retaining your balance abilities and I should do it.
