I have a question..Has everyone else's Goodwill stopped accepting toys like mine has? I was getting ready to clean out a bunch of my boys old toys - some are like new, and I was told they don't accept toys anymore because of all the recall problems. I literally stopped my plans to clean out the toys because I can't stand the thought of just throwing them away.

I was in Salvation Army the other day and they are still accepting toys, so I guess I will have to schlep all our stuff across town..

Just wondering..

I buy my kids books from Goodwill, I have found some good ones, too. Every once in a while, I find a treasure.

If your goodwill wont accept them, freecycle em. www.freecycle.org I give ALOT of stuff away on there.. people come pick it up and its magically gone:wizard:

I dont shop at them because I usually buy my kids clothes cheaper new than what the sell them at used. I LOVE the outlets and end of season sales.. it makes me drool when I find great name brand clothes 90% off :woohoo:

Does ordinary laundry detergent kill EVERY kind of germ that can be left behind in a swimsuit? Not trying to be smart here - really don't know. Without knowing it the person who owned the swimsuit could have had a bladder or va****l infection.

I really dont know. I do know I have been buying one of my daughters swimsuits from thriftstores for yrs, and never had any problems. They go from washing machine to dryer:confused3

I've never purchased a used swimsuit or undergarments for any member of my family, but if you have lice, you're told to wash EVERYTHING and put it all in the dryer. Supposedly, lice cannot survive the heat. It's just a guess on my part, but I'd imagine other bacteria etc.. wouldn't survive either.

I can tell you this... washing your clothes with out bleach (maybe vinegar) will not kill most bacteria/virus's, drying them on high heat might help, but your washer holds probably more icky stuff than you'd like to know about. Basically with out bleach and VERY VERY hot water all the washer does is swish all that nasty stuff around.

Some hospitals will accept children's toys for their kids. They disinfect them, too. I send all kinds of crap in with a friend of mine who works the pediatric intensive care.

They keep what they need for the kids and they let people take home what they don't need.

Today I picked up a pair of khaki Talbot walking shorts, flat front for $6.00

no, never shopped in a consignment/thrift store - don't buy clothes all that frequently, when i do it's usually at target or kohls - but i don't look down upon them either - they serve a purpose for lots of people, and that makes them needed

For somet hings, bleach won't even kill it sometimes! BFF had a yeast infection when she was nursing her third child. She just coulld NOT get rid of it. She used vinegar on her bras, bleached them, used the hot water wash...everything she could think of. Finally, she told me what was going on. I told her that I had read similar problems a woman online was having and had read to boil your bra. She laughed, but did it and no more yeast! She was able to get the infection to go away. (She'd had it for MONTHS btw! :scared1: )

oh, and my next washer/dryer WILL have the sanitary cycle/steam option! ;)

ETA: I forgot...even after all her trouble, I shop at thrift stores. :) And my best find so far is a Gucci leather blazer for $4!!! (MAN is that jacket SOFT! I just need to lose some wright so I can WEAR it again! LOL!)

I shop at Consignment stores and sales...I have a couple of specific stores that I go to for our girls. I tend to buy almost everything for my youngest daughter (age 2) from consigment but I buy more new stuff for my older daughter (age 14). I have bought some items from E-bay as well.
I always wash the clothes the gently used clothes before they wear them..but who knows how truly sanitary they are. I don't think about that too much...;)

I wanted to add if you have clothes you can't bleach you can use tea tree oil to kill some of the stuff...
