Does anyone sew on their pages/cards? I like the look of it but I have a $5000.00 Sewing/embroidery machine and I dont think I want to be sewing paper with it. (Which by the way is getting very jealous, because I am too busy using my new cricut and havent touched the sewing machine in days). I have seen the little craft sewing machines are they worth it or are they junk?
IDEAS??????
thanks
Jennifer

Every now and then I sew on paper. I have a regular sewing machine. No frills, but it is a real one. I've made blankets and stuff with it. I recently sewed patches on my DS's Cub Scout uniform and then sewed some cardstock together and then patches on my uniform. No problems. :cutie:

I would if I could thread the darn needle. My eyes are getting to the point I can not thread my sewing machine needle. I need to get one of those thingabobs to help me thread it. Guess I need to go to Joanns.:moped::rolleyes1

Sewing on my pages is one technique that I really want to do! I need to learn to sew in general. LOL.

By the way, my sister has an expensive machine that also embroiders - she uses it to sew on her pages all the time. She always talks about having to use the thicker cardstock to be sure it doesn't jam.

I'm considering one of those $80 machines from WalMart! hmm.

That's what I forgot to do this weekend. Move my sewing machine up from the basement, where it's collecting mountains of dust, to my scraproom. I love the look of sewing and have been meaning to start doing it.

My MIL bought me a sewing machine from a garage sale one time for about $15. It's great, old, but still great. It has about 20 different stitches on there (if I remember correctly) and is really a workhorse. That is if I ever actually used it sometime. She thought I might sew my own curtains and the girls clothes. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Whew, anyway... you could try looking for a cheap used one to use just on your pages.

eta: What ever you do DON'T get one of those $10 sew crafty (or something like that) ones. It would be a complete waste of $$$. I bought one for $5 once and ended up throwing it in the trash. It *never* and I mean not once worked. I wish I had just bought some cute paper with that $5.

I have only sewed on one page and I didn't like the look of it when it was finished. I think I need to practice a bit more though. I have a regular sewing machine that I make clothes for my daughter with, but it is just a regular run of the mill type sewing machine. I love it though and glad I do have one.

Faux stitching!

I use either a White Gel pen to draw straight or zig zag lines, or I use a stamp set (I got mine through Close to My Heart) with black or white craft ink.

You can also get rubons that simulate stitching.

Here is one layout where I used the stitch stamp:

I like the faux sewing look. Less chance for injury. I am a klutz and would probably sew my fingers to the page.

My SU consultant uses the mat & guide to manually punch holes and then sews by hand. Usually just a small area, like the stitching on a football. The kit is on my list of things to purchase this year. Just don't know when.

Oooh I love that layout! Love the faux stitching. I *might* be tempted to try this! Thank you for sharing.

this is something I've thought about on many occasions, but then 'can't be bothered to get out the machine'! I do know that it blunts your needle, so save and use old ones if you can. I think you should start by practising on scraps first as it can take a little time to get the correct tension.
I've also got a couple of templates to try pricking and hand sewing, but haven't got around to that either :guilty:

I used to use it some, but is was such a pain to have to rethread for different colors (the needle and bottom thing, bobbin I think?). And then the machine started jamming on me: my mom says I need to have it professional cleaned. I really like the idea of the stamp: what a beautiful page without all that headache!

Sometimes if I am feeling crafty I will handsew embroidery floss on the page. It's so pretty but time consuming.
