or do you put everything in bowls/serving dishes on the table and serve from there? I adore setting a pretty table and tend to believe I am the Betty Crocker of the 21 century :hippie:. Only my hair is longer and I don't wear a red dress to serve my meals, though I bet hubby would love that :lmao:

But for the life of me I just can't justify washing all those extra plates and bowls. I actually would love to do it if someone else would wash all the dishes (but for now let's stay in reality) so I serve from the stove. I almost feel "Cheap" serving food from the stove almost as if I am selling myself out for an easier cleanup...tawdry huh:rolleyes1
What do you do?

Mostly from the stove. If I know I will have leftovers of something, I'll serve from a bowl and then use that bowl to store leftovers.

From the stove unless it is some sort of sauce to dip in.

For just DH and I, I usually serve the meat, fish etc. from the stove, but put the veggies and starch on the table since there is usually more than one serving each of those items. If any of our family is eating with us, I put everything on the table. I like to see it looking nice too! I have a dishwasher, so I don't mind the extra dishes.

Sometimes I even set the table in the dining room just for DH and I and have candles, fine china, the whole nine yards. (I did this a few times while the kids were still home and they wondered who was coming for dinner!:lmao:)

Maybe taking food right from the stove would be more fun if you used your good china and cloth napkins. Rock on Ms Crocker!

From the stove if it's just DH and me.
When we're serving other people we use serving bowls on the lkitchen counter then carry our plates to the table. Our table is too small to hold serving dishes.

Yes I do. I also do what the PP said that sometimes I do put it in containers that I am going to store it in if I have time.

Now I do know big families that do not serve from the stove however they NEVER have leftovers. I could see if you have big eaters serving from the stove would not work out so well.

We do both. I like serving dishes but your right I don't like washing them all. SO it just depends are we in a hurry what are having how many dishes do I already have to clean.

I do always use good china. Matter of fact I collect vintage sets of china and change with the seasons (I see eye rolling going on :confused3). Everytime we go to estate sale my poor husband begs me not to buy any more but his cries are truly futile. I am obsessed with other peoples old used eaten on china :thumbsup2 Of course it has to be their old GOOD used China:rotfl2:

Your just recycling:confused3:laughing:

From the stove. I agree, I am not going to dirty all those bowls.

On a similar note, DH made dinner entirely by himself last night (first time in years). I have a cold and didn't want to contaminate everything.

We had Mexican so that does require separate bowls for some of the things (lettuce, homemade salsa, guacamole, etc). Instead of using bowls that he could just throw lids on when we finished eating, he used mixing type bowls without lids. He ended up with a boatload of bowls/serving dishes to wash. If I have something I am serving in a bowl (not directly from the pot on the stove) I make it a point to grab something with a lid so I don't have more to wash.

I have a row of counter that I put trivets down on, and move things from the oven/stove to, and I serve buffet style.

We eat from serving bowls once or twice a week. I/we mostly serve from the stove. My husband is pretty funny. If he puts something in a serving bowl and he thinks there is another bowl with a better fit, he moves the food and has two bowls to clean. When he's cooked dinner, the kitchen is a horrible mess, lol! It takes me two efforts to clean up after him. I clean if he cooks, he cleans after me. He's much more creative and tries new menus. I cook the old standbys.

From the stove! That way I can make sure everyone gets a fair portion and nobody gets left out.

Of course, then we all take our plates into the living room and eat them on trays (or our knees) while we watch the evening news, with a lot of pausing the TV and family discussion going on at the same time.

Apparently, this makes us bad, neglectful parents. ;)

I guess I'm an oddball but I do put stuff out in trays and bowls... except for soup because the whole tureen thing is way too much for me. Every night I have a salad, a meat dish and 1 or 2 veggies. Sometimes I will put the baking pan right on the table (on trivets) if its messy like eggplant parm or likely to cool too quickly, like broiled fish or I'll even put a whole slow cooker on the table. If I didn't use serving bowls I would never sit down, who gets up to serve second helpings, that would end up being me... no thank you.

To each their own, this is mine

I do a combination for my family. I load the meat and starch right from the stove (mostly for portion control) but put the fruits and vegetables on the table. The only exception is taco night, when everything goes on the table in bowls. I don't like putting a tub of sour cream on the table; I have to put some in a small bowl.

However, if we have company it all goes on the table.

I serve straight from the stove, except if we have company (and that's usually only on holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter).

I am obsessed with serving bowls and platters. For some reason I lean towards white, but am thinking about adding in some color soon.

I don't use them every night, but frequently I do . Hubby seems to appreciate it, plus I like the way a pretty salad or pasta dish looks . All about presentation ; ).

I collect dish sets if I had to room . I do have a set for fall and for summer . I am looking to replace my spring summer set soon. 17 year old Lenox Poppies on blue, I love it still, but it is very dated and doesn't match my kitchen. Will go with a all white set , possibly fiesta and add in colors for holidays.

I put everything on the table in the pot or pan that it was cooked or baked in...unless it's a sauce or something like a special garnish that needs its own bowl or plate. I don't get the idea of serving from the stove? It is so much easier to put it all on the table and get your helpings from there.
