Do you "sanitize" your room when you first get there?

If I don't find a dead body in the tub, I'm good to go.

We keep the room picked up and things put away, but I leave my nesting instincts entirely at home. I go on vacation to va-CA-tion, not clean.

I thought I was the only one who brought my own sheets from home :rotfl2:

We started doing that after I read on these boards about some poor girl who stayed at a Disney hotel and got bed bugs really bad. It took months for her to get better! That grossed me out SO bad :sad2:

Plus, as an added benefit, they are WAY more comfortable! ;)

We also wipe down the remote and bathroom fixtures :teeth:
I work in a field where I see what germs/bacteria look like and what it can do to you so yes I am paranoid.... If driving.... life is easier but if flying ....we have to stop at Publix at rt 192 to get all the stuff we need. Clorox for the tub to soak in while soaking the tub.. I wipe the toilet bowl, sink, all the handles, bathroom floor, remote control, phone with 100% bleach... family leaves me in the room to satisfy this need to clean... everybody brings/buy flip flops ( dollar store) for the room. (I know this is total paranoia) Brings my own sheet Sets ( buys the cheapest one since it will stays there, never to go home with us and tells mousekeeper that its fine no need to change sits nor worry about comforters ) so I have to make sure if we are having full/queen/king room. Thank God we never get cold and never needs comforter just the sheets with our jammies on is fine. We bring our own Towels but still use towel from the hotel for the floor. After all this chores is done .. maybe about 30 to 1 hour.... I can have my ice cold coffee change to my most relaxing vacation outfit and put my feet up and relax maybe even take a snooze in my home smelling pillows... Sick to some of you yes... but when you see x number of people getting sick you might want to think twice.. Public bathrooms... if we really need/have too I have a pack of disposable toilet bowl sit and wipes in my bag and Also thank god for Purell. DN nephew has a weak immune system and I cannot afford getting him sick out of state! :wizard:

You are exposed to more germs in everyday life being around other people than you are staying in a hotel room. You're more likely to catch something from someone sneezing in the same room than sleeping on sheets. BTW, most bacteria and viruses have a very short lifespan especially on dry surfaces.

Oh yeah, forgot to add, more people get food poisoning in their own homes than elsewhere. Those "stomach bugs" that people get are caused just as often by food handling at home as they are by food handling elsewhere or exposure to a virus.

I travel alot for work, I've probably spent 40 or 50 nights in hotel rooms this year (counting 2 trips to WDW) and haven't been sick yet. I do pull the comforter down, I don't take a tub bath. I do glance at the sheets and the glasses in the bathroom (they really shouldn't keep them in there). I did see a dirty glass in the bathroom at a Hampton Inn last week, I usually use the plastic ones they have wrapped. It just doesn't freak me out.

I barely even unpack!!!!!
My ONLY must thing to do is...TAKE A SHOWER AFTER THE POOL!!! thats it!

However, maybe WDW should go back to the olden days of placing the paper banner on the toilet seat stating "Sanitized for Your Protection"..calm some people down a bit!

FUNNY THREAD :rotfl2:

What on earth do you do that makes you that paranoid? I've spent 20+ years as a clinical microbiologist (believe me, I know germs), and I've never worried about Disney's rooms for even a second. We've been staying in Disney properties for 28 years. We've never had a problem. Not one. Zip. Nada. And that's without all the Clorox, Lysol, Purell, personal towels, sheets, pillows, and toity covers. We even actually (gasp!) walk on the floors.

Why waste time and money with all that junk? Go to a park. Have fun.

PURELL... PRIOR to purell and all this gel disinfectant... washing of hands regularly.. :goodvibes

Yes I do...it take me less than 10 minutes...gotta love the travel packs of clorox wipes.

Wow...just think of all the germs my son has been exposed to..from all the nights he spent as a "floor-boy" sleeping on top of the bedspread! It amazes me that he is still alive!!! ;)

The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to wash your hands frequently with soap and hot water. Lysoling everything is overkill, IMHO.

All this talk about anti-bacterial sprays, soaps and gels makes me have to point this out:

If you have a thyroid condition or even a family history of one, please do not use any product with triclosan. An antibacterial gel that uses only alcohol as an antibacterial agent is fine, but one with triclosan can activate a borderline hypothyroidism or make someone with active hypothyroidism very ill.

Triclosan products are also one of the number one products that breed those "superbugs". (Bacteria that fight off the antibacterial stuff and get stronger and stronger and without good bacteria to fight it, superbugs can cause some hardier versions of illnesses. )

Truly the best thing to do is to drink lots of fluids and wash often with soap and water- the best things you can do to have a healthy immune system!

I do, I do! It's just a gross factor for me though...I don't actually think I'll catch something. :confused3

Pretty much use bleach wipes on whole bathroom and remote and light switches and door handles. I then stop my madness.

About the bathroom. We have stayed at some really nice resorts. I have yet to clean a bathroom floor with a bleach wipe and have it come up clean. Usually shockingly dirty! :bitelip: Park Hyatt, Le Meridien...DISNEY! My yuck is okay with me...other people's yuck is not! :rotfl:

I need my DH and family to read this thread because they think I am a nut job and a germ freak! I'm so glad I'm not alone!

Thanks Lulu

I am the ONLY one in the family without Hypothyroidism....and NEVER heard this before!

I don't think doing a quick wipe down necessarily makes you a germo-phobe. If you're spending hours cleaning, then maybe..... but for most of us, I think it just makes us feel more comfortable. Mostly when it comes to the bathrooms. I don't want to sit on a toilet that big Harvey just sat on, but the maid didn't clean because it "looked" clean. The tub too. It's not like I think I'm going to die or become deathly ill if I don't clean it, but I will sure be more relaxed while on the porcelain throne if I know it's been wiped down.

If Disney is cutting back on staff like the reports, there's a good chance that corners are cut to cover the work needed to be done. I'm sure there are more germs IN the park than an unclean room, BUT it's the hidden bodily fluids/DNA that I don't want to lounge around in more than anything else.
I really never gave a thought to walking barefoot in the room though :confused3 If you don't plan on licking your feet, what could happen? Just wondering....

Yes, I do the very same things! I always bring the Lysol and the Clorox wipes. I sometimes even by bleach to clean the tub if my daughter insists on her bath. :cheer2: I wipe door knobs, light switches, the toilet and handle, faucets, tv remote, and last but not least the phone. I guess I have been in the medical field far too long not to do this! LOL. :rolleyes1

I also take the comforters off the bed. :guilty: No walking around on the carpet or floor barefoot for my family or me. Flip flops are a MUST. :flower:

 why did I turned out to be like this.... maybe because of previous experiences.... blood stain on sheets... granted you have the best view in town over looking the city you're in but if there's blood stain you'll remember the stain esp'ly if it is not yours and not the nice view :confused3 ; a condom under the bed not in the original packaging.. makes you wonder while lying there on your bed :p .... Don't get me wrong... majority of our stay in hotels were great, thats what vacation are for.. to relax and be able to leisurely choose where you eat and where you want to stay but also there are this occasional mishaps... it is just human nature to remember.... good and BAD experiences and all you can do is find a point where you can say... "this is OK" if wiping things makes you at peace and more relax so be it... if you think it is Ok and you have not encoutered scenarios like this that's is even better and I hope I will too.... if you dont want to use their sheets it is also ok... if I don't want to take the sheets home with me .. it is also OK... as long as you are not stepping in anybody's toes and not doing anything against the law and not endangering your fellow human being..... you're OK in my book... :love2:
