Do you remember your first internet purchase?

I guess I have to be an Old Fogy because I don't remember-it was 12 years or more ago :lmao:. I THINK it might have been our Select Comfort bed or it might have been some clothing :confused3.

never forget our first purchase.... husband and I both remember it..... back in the day of prodigy.... we ordered to bags of Kona coffee from Hawaii

I am enjoying the heck out of this. Anyone over 30 is welcome at the Old Fogies! Actually, anyone who feels over 30 can join. We are all inclusive.

That is hilarious to the poster who found the paper stating the internet was not to be used for schoolwork. My DD 16, who already has her own laptop, got another one from school. For free. It's hers until she graduates. All the juniors and seniors got one as part of the "Golden Leaf" program. Remember the big tobacco settlement from several years ago, well they are now donating laptops to students. Next year, in my house, we will have FIVE. Mine, Haley's personal laptop, Hannah's personal laptop and they will each have a school laptop. And yes, they have to bring them home everyday.

I'm not bragging, I just remember how excited I was to get our first computer. It was an emachines desktop (cheapest desktop at Best Buy) and only dial up was available and no one knew that the internet could be faster. LMAO. Now we have wifi, and I can't imagine being without it.

The biggest thing I ever purchased online were bunkbeds when the girls were younger. They were handmade out of wood and had to be shipped in a tractor trailer. The driver couldn't even bring it to our house because we live on a dead end road and he had no place to turn around. My husband had to meet him in a church parking lot and load the boxes on to the back of his own truck. :rotfl:
I still have a desktop, only the 2nd one I've purchased. Bought it in 2005. Works fantastic except for gaming, of which I don't do much any more.

I don't have a wireless router. I started bringing my work laptop home to use, but it was too much of a pain to disconnect the modem from down in the basement to reconnect it upstairs in the living room. It's also easier to lock it in my drawer at work overnight rather than pack it up and carry it home, so I haven't bothered with buying a wireless router.

My first internet purchase was an RC airplane back around 2004 I think. That year, we bought all our Christmas presents for the kids online and haven't bought anything online since.

I like to hold in my hands and check out what I'm buying.

I don't remember what my first purchase was, but I do remember my DH wouldn't let me order anything online until we got a special credit card for internet purchases. He insisted it couldn't have more than a $500.00 limit so if anyone stole our credit card number online they couldn't charge more than that. That was in 1995. We still have that card, but I rarely use it.

I'm pretty sure my first Internet purchase was when my BIL told me I could buy the book he had just had published off of something called "Amazon.com". It was a little confusing, because the publisher was someone called "Aronson", so at first I thought he'd said 'Aronson.com'. I finally found this little website, that mostly sold books... ;)

Sayhello

The first thing I ordered myself with my own card was the first season of "Gilmore Girls" on DVD from Amazon

Ahh, a girl after my own heart! LOVE the Gilmore Girls.

And to the PP who wondered why no one else mentioned buying tickets online, that is an excellent question. We went to Las Vegas in 2001 and used a travel agent! I wouldn't even dream of doing that now:rotfl:

I love how most of us were so fearful of buying things off the internet for fear of getting scammed. I have to say that I do just about all my non grocery shopping online. It's just so much easier. AND you can usually find codes for free shipping or percentages off.

Keep em coming folks...this is a interesting, non controversial thread!!

It would have been something from amazon, after I got the job there, since I didn't have a computer and would have had to use theirs. :)

I remember, it was a Saved By the Bell Vhs tape for my son. It was in 2002. I remember it well because it started my eBay business! :thumbsup2

Mine was an Annette Himstedt doll from a doll store in Germany. After that purchase, ebay came to be and I started purchasing them there at a much cheaper price.
