Do you remember when...

I remember in the late 1970's, riding on the freeway in the back of my friends dad pick up truck and then STANDING UP and looking over the cab front. :earseek:

What on earth was her dad thinking letting us do that??

We had a 1959 caddy limo when I was a kid and I would lay across the back of the front seat because it was so big (it had a glass window that went up and down).

I had one friend whose dad made us wear seat belts..

I never ever get into a car nowadays without a belting up.

My MIL says she had car seats for her girls (now 38 and 40). They were like little bucket seats, with bars that hooked over the back seat. A lot of good that would have done!

I totally remember this. I remember when taking road trips into Ohio that as soon as we crossed the state line, we all put on the seat belts since it was the law then in that state. It wasn't law in Indiana for quite some time.

Now, I can't imagine driving without one on - I just feel like something is missing if I am not wearing my seatbelt now.

I am still, however, trying to make my father do this. He still to this day will not wear his seatbelt - stubborn man!

Yes, we used to play in the back of any car we were riding in and never wore seat belts. I was born in 1970. My parents did have an ugly white car seat when I was a baby. We also never had helmets/pads for bike riding or roller skating. I never broke a bone or got really hurt though! In college friends had a Jeep and we used to switch seats as it was flying down the road.

I remember my dad throwing a mattress in the back of our Ford truck. There were 6 kids in our family, and all of us would climb in the back and head off to Hershey Park, which was like a 5 hour trip from our house. It would be pouring, and there we would all be soaking wet. :p Those were the days.

I also remember laying across the back window of my grandparents car. When the truckers would go by I would pump my fist and they would honk their horn.:smooth: Then I would talk to them on the C.B

*chuckle* I had to laugh @ this:

When I got my first new car in 1965 I ordered the "optional" seat belts (lap only) and my mother had a fit because she thought that made it a "race car!"

My dad still does the swinging the arm out to catch his passanger when he hits the brakes  Even tho we're always belted in :p

I remember laying upside down (legs over the back chair) watching out the window... the road we were on, the reflection, you'd think you were driving off a cliff... :smooth:

::yes:: This happened to me too :( Same bronco as I previously posted about laying upside down in the back seat LOL
I saw my mom (who had been away for some reason) and tried to open the car door. I only got it opened part way... my aunt hit a bump and for all of 2 seconds I WAS supergirl... and then I was supergirl w/a run over leg :( I almost lost that leg (nurse told me to walk on it as much as possible, who knew I had gotten gangreen!

Yep! When I was younger, I was sitting on the arm rest on the door and actually fell out of the car...apparently my door wasn't closed all of the way! To this day (I'm now 25) I can't get in a car w/o locking the doors. I also remember standing up in the back seat.
