Do you remember these stores?

I remember Hahne's in Montclair.

Ohrbachs!

Clothing Town...think it was just in our area. But I LOVED their clothes! :)

I remember Baker Shoes. They were "good" shoes whereas Thom McCann shoes fell apart in no time. LOL!

Channel Home Centers...yup, I worked there.

Foodtown

Grants...I still have a pair of sewing scissors that say "Grants" on them!

Wow you've brought back memories. I lived very close to a Robert Hall and it was the first store that I went shopping at alone. It was my first shopping spree.

::yes:: :rotfl:

OMG - I DO remember Units!!! My sister loved that store! If you remember that, than you must remember Id . I worked there when I was in college. All of the clothese were color coordinated. Kind of like Garanimals for fashionally challenged adults

Okay, a couple of you just HAD to mention Robert Hall. Thanks a bunch. Now I have parts of the jingle trying to run through my head. Something along the lines of "the values go up up up, the prices go down down down." Their animated ads used to come on during what little bit of late afternoon TV we were allowed to watch (Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger). This is circa 1959/1960.
Fun thread!

Wasn't that a girly girl store? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

Man, of all the decades, I truly think the 80's had it the worst. The 50's had that slick James Dean or the Richie Cunningham thing. 60's had awesome flower power, hippy stuff. 70's had disco which, you have to admit was tacky but hot. The 90's. Well, we're not far out of it so we're still dressed like it.

The 80's? Everything was ripped or shredded. Acid or stone washed. Zippers and pockets where there should never be anything. A zipper on your shoulder???? Pleather. BRIGHT, day-glo clothes.

The only normal thing was preppy, but just how many Izod shirts should one person wear at one time?

What ever happened to Benetton?

For grocery stores, I remember Pantry Pride and Penn Fruit. They may have just been Philadelphia area stores, not sure.

This is an awesome thread! What memories! You were so cool if you bought your shoes at Wild Pair!

Theres a Tellos in the Square on Mall in Saugus Ma,

OK heres one that me and DH were just talking about, York Steak House!! DH and I ate there all the time when we were dating. OK im dating myself but oh the food was good

ps, Blondie I totally agree with the TF I love to see all your new clippies, I look for them!! They are great!!

Fayva (yes I worked at Fayva shoes!)

Clover
Two Guys
Barbara Moss
Woolworths (the Woolworths is now a Bertucci's)
Jamesway (I worked at a Jamesway)
Ames

There was a local store in Trenton NJ called

Dunham's

I also miss this Philly area South Street stores

Zipperhead!

Jordan Marsh...........
That's the FIRST thing I thought of reading this thread...especially the one that achored Shopper's World in Framingham, where I grew up in the 60's/70's. Shoppers World in now gone and Jordan's is Macy's at the Natick Mall. Sigh. Shopper's World also had:
Windsor Button Shop they sold "notions" as my mom would say!) Neat place :)

More Boston area ones:

Anderson Little Co.

Loehman's

And who can forget Hit or Miss? (for those Huk-a-poo shirts and corduroys) :teeth: LOL

Wow, Robert Hall! I remember getting for Christmas the best gift ever from there. It was a coat that I had seen there and wanted ever so bad. I was surprised with it on Christmas Eve night. It was navy blue, zipper front and an appliqueé of a castle on the back, and yes it was a Maxi Coat, lol. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.:D

John's Bargain store brings back great memories. My Grandfather would take me to the cemetery (with hot dry sausage and Italian Bread) to visit Grandma and then we would go to his brother and sisters house (they never married and all lived together). They would take me to John's Bargain store to pick out a new toy or crafty thing and then we would go back to their house, the adults played cards, I played with my new toy and we all ate pizza. I'm choked up, that's a real great memory of great days.

Here are a few from the suburban D.C. area:
Woody's (Woodward and Lothrop)
Garfinkles
Bon Ton
Mc Crorys 5&10
SuperFresh

Blondie, there's a Benneton here in Richmond at one of the new malls.

In the South, does anyone else remember TG&Y? /QUOTE]

I do!! We had one in Calhoun, Georgia, where I grew up. At some point in the mid to late 1980s it turned into a McCrorys, and eventually closed up a few years after WalMart came to town.

I remember a bunch that were probably regional chains --

Jacks, a fast food hamburger place (but not Jack In The Box).
Big Apple was a grocery store.
Super D was a five and dime that was the main place in downtown. It had a lunch counter that was extremely popular, and when the store closed it was probably missed more than the store itself.
Turtle's Music was big in Atlanta and north Georgia.
Big B drug store might still be around.

Lechtner's
Burdine's
Lord and Taylor

Black Angus Restaurant
Morrison's Cafeteria
Picadilly Cafeteria (closed done near me recently) become a La Carreta

I worked for the home office of Foxmoor in the mid 80's. I haven't seen that store mentioned yet.

I remember that store...there was one in the local 'not so cool' mall in our town (which had 2..the cool mall and the rundown not so cool dying a very slow and painful death even now mall). I don't know WHAT the heck I was thinking when I bought a lime green (yes..lime green!) shirt and matching flair-leg pants there with the mandatory wide belt that was white with lime green spots.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a store I was thinking about, and for the life of me, I couldn't remember the name!

Foxmoor was it!

Obi-Wan, I'm surprised there are still Benettons around! I really thought they went out of business, or changed names!

Someone mentioned Hit or Miss! There's another one I hadn't thought of but remember shopping in occasionally!

There used to be a store I liked way back in the 80's called Weathervane. Anyone know if it's still around?
