Do you remember Service Merchandise?

Our wedding rings also came from Service Merchandise. We were married in 1975, still married!

I think our old Service Merchandise building is now a LA Fitness. Its huge with an indoor pool. I think they actually took over a few stores in the strip mall and knocked down walls to connect them. The S.M a few towns over is now a Big Lots

There is a store in London that is a catalogue store. Imagine Sam's club type variety, but ordering in a catalogue and waiting for them to bring it up to you! I bought a pillow and comforter and they gave me a bag the size of a grocery bag because it was so tightly vacuum packed . It was quite fun. Argos.co.uk

Argos is awesome. And they advertise with this alien family who are hilarious to watch.

I remember Service Merchandise. Before that, we had Robert Hall and Best, lol.

My wedding ring and wedding registry were at Service Merchandise. China patterns were at Filene's!

Do people still do China Patterns?

I remember Service Merchandise. IIRC, I like the store. IIRC (part II), I worked as a temporary employee at Best in a warehouse one summer loading & unloading semi trucks.

I will never forget it. When I was pregnant with my daughter my water broke during a visit to Service Merchandise. Needless to say I never finished my shopping that day:goodvibes

As a child of the 80's, the best part of Service Merchandise was the huge holiday season catalog. It was a tradition of my brother & I to grab the big catalog they had over the holidays & we would circle all the things we wanted for presents :) I always circled the Barbies stuff. My parents used to pick a few things we circled & got them for us as presents:cool1:

Yes, when I was a child, you did all your Christmas shopping, especially toy shopping, at SM or Sears. That was before the days of Target and Walmart. I think my parents loved not having to scratch price tags off the gifts from Santa.

Sears had the BEST Christmas Catalogs ever, they even had comics on some of the pages "way back when". Dennis the Menace I want to say.

Bought a boombox there that I had for a long time. Also bought a Sony mini speaker system that still serves as the sound system for my desktop computer.:)

Wow! My first job was at Service Merchandise!

I was always happy when I could work the conveyor belt! Pulling the orders wasn't that great though, the warehouse was huge!

My first bike came from Service Merchandise. To give you an idea of how pathetic the mall in my hometown is, the place where Service Merchandise used to be was still sitting empty in 2010. Nothing had gone in there since Service Merchandise. Not sure if anything is there now.

Yes I remember that place. I remember they had a catalog, and how they had the store set up, the conveyer belt and all. It's been a long time!

Still have a few things in my home from Service Merchandise: kitchen clock, alarm clock, boom box. Guess they made electronics a bit hardier back then!
