do you remember school house rock?

i've got the videos of the old ones-but i don't think it's on there. if you go to the schoolhouse rock site they have the old stuff plus new video, software and hands on stuff that is now grouped by grade and subject level.

i loved these when i was a kid-in fact i still can't say the preamble to the constitutution, i have to sing it to the tune i learned it to :goodvibes

LOL, my child's class had to recite the Preamble at a PTF meeting last night and I looked to see how many parents looked like they were humming the tune.

Yes, we loved SchoolHouse Rock and have the videos and DVD. I'm shocked at how many people don't remember it.

However, I don't recall anything about vowels.

Then again, when I bought the DVD, I didn't remember ever seeing the preposition song before either. ;)

Conjunction Junction, what's your function?

Just put this on my video ipod....love it.

when franklin came home with flu (uu-huh) the doctor knew just what to do (oo), he cured the infection with one small injection and franklin started shouting out INTERJECTIONS...

interjects state excitement or emotion especialy when set apart from a sentance by an exclamation point (or by a comma when the feelings not as strong).

so when your happy "HURRAY!", or sad "aaaaw", or frightened "EEEK!', or mad "RATS!".....an interjection starts a sentance right. :lmao:

i love "i'm just a bill"-but even better is the simpson's version "i'm an amendment to be" (when itchy and scratchy got banned-krusty the clown apologized for having to show this)-we have it on a simpson's c.d.

I LOVED School House Rocks. I just saw a DVD of it somewhere and I should have grabbed it when I had the chance. When I have kids I'm going to have my kids watch it.

I also loved School House Rock.
I don`t know if this is what you are looking for: When two vowels go walking the first one does the talking. :wave2:

barkley- we just watched that Simpsons episode last week. :rotfl2:

Did 'Bill' star in another one, or is just the 'i'm just a bBill, sitting here on Capitol Hill.."

I think I need to order this for my kids. They really don't teach some of this stuff anymore.

Along the same lines are the Sesame Street learning videos - My personal favorite is "Learning to Add and Subtract" All of my kids learned basic math watching these. I had to explain to my daughters 1st grade teacher that she knew how to multiply already so the adding and subtracting homework was really too easy for her.

So can anyone tell me why these went away? Was it a funding cut or deregulation or what? or maybe they are still around and I just live under a rock (I don't watch much TV).

Actually, Reginald had the flu! Franklin found he had the ball, and he made a connection in the other direction! :)

I have all 4 School Rocks on video and the DVD set, too! I also have the CD set of all the songs as well! I also have the "Official School House Rock Guide" - a book of all the lyrics and an introduction of how School House Rock came to be. :)

I went to college at Trenton State College in 1989 (now the College of NJ), and I had a professor named Henry Beechhold. We initially didn't like him much, but then one day in class he mentioned he was the grammer consultant for School House Rock, and he is listed prominently in the credits on the Grammer video! That completely WOWed our class!! So I met one of the School House Rock founding fathers! :teeth:

Interplanet Janet, she's a galaxy girl!

I LOVE Schoolhouse Rock. I loved them growing up, and until recently used to watch the dvds all the time with my niece and nephew, until my niece developed an inexplicable fear of Mr. Morton (Mr. Morton is the subject of the sentence, and the predicate is what he does). She would talk all through the other skits about how she did not like 'THAT MAN,' so we finally gave up on watching them.

Poor Mr. Morton.

To the OP: I don't recall a skit that specifically dealt with vowels.

I loved school house rock also. At the time I didn't understand most of them, but as I got older and realized what they were trying to tell me I thought they were great. I also can still recite the preamble, but only thanks to school rock. I wish they still showed them. :)

A couple of years ago we saw the DVD's at Sams Club and bought them. We didnt even have a child yet. My fave will always be Bill. I cant wait til DS is old enough to show these to him.

Count me as one of the people that can "sing" the preamble to the Constitution!! "We the people, in order to form a more perfect union...."

I have to get these for my kids...nostalgic and educational!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Thanks, liamsaunt, now I have Interplanet Janet in my head for the rest of the day!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

They had Christmas ornaments at Acme of "Bill" that played a part of the song when you pressed a button. I got it for DH and he's been singing it ever since!

Isn't it funny how you remember something better if a cartoon sings it to you?

I too have the DVD. My favorite has always been "Suffering until sufferage". I'm such a feminist!

"And we were suffering, until sufferage. Not a woman here could vote no matter what age. Then the 19th ammendment struck down that restrictive rule - oh YEAH!!!! "

I don't remember there being one specifically about vowels.
There are ones for the parts of speech, and lots of math, but I don't remember vowels.
I have the top 25 schoolhouse rock video. My sons learned their multiplication tables the same way I did...they sing them!

I don't remember any School House Rock episodes that teach vowels, but you can get some of the School House Rock episodes that will play on the LeapFrog Leapster. Another video for the Leapster is Leapster's Word Factory Video and it does teach vowels: "We're the vowels, we're the glue that sticks the words together. We're icky sticky letters..."

I agree about the Leapster. DD4 knows all her vowels because of the sticky letters. (She is also the one who doesn't like Mr. Morton)

As for me, I liked School House Rock..."Interjection, for emotion!" was a favorite. As was Conjunction Junction. I was never a fan of "I'm Just a Bill" as a kid though. He was sitting on Capitol Hill way too long for my liking and all I wanted to see was Mighty Mouse.
