Do you really get into the music of one artist?

I spend up to 14 hours a day in my vehicle and all I need are 3 Carrie Underwood CDs to pass the time.

Summer, 1981. I was turning 7 years old. I heard Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" on the radio in my mother's car. Then I saw the video for "Planet Earth" on TV somewhere. I was hooked and haven't looked back...

I have their first four albums and Astronaut on vinyl, all framed. In fact, their debut album, I have the original debut album from 1981, not the re-release with one song removed/one song replaced from 1983. I have all of their CDs, first issues AND remasters, plus The Power Station, Arcadia, and some of John Taylor's solo stuff. I have my original VHS tapes of Sing Blue Silver, Dancing on the Valentine, Arena, Three to Get Ready, and the Video Collection, all from the 80s. I have the DVD reissues of Sing Blue Silver and Arena, plus the "Greatest" collection, "Classic Albums - Rio," "Hammersmith '82," "Live from London," plus the CD+DVD and Dual Disc versions of Astronaut and Red Carpet Massacre. I am eagerly awaiting the CD+DVD reissues of their debut album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger, and Arcadia's So Red the Rose. I've seen them in concert 3x; I have my t-shirts and programs from all three (my t-shirt from 1987 still fits!)...heck, I still have my children's t-shirt from 1982!

I have two tattoos for them; one is the symbol that figures prominently in the video "New Moon on Monday." Above that is a tribal-ish sun, my way of symbolizing "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise" when the original five members reunited. And my license plate on my car is DURAN 2.
I  MY BOYS! :teeth:

Heather is that you? I had a friend in high school that adored Duran Duran like you do. She had the framed albums--thats all their was then, stayed up late to watch the MTV video debuts, Tshirts, programs... the works!

(Actually-- it wouldn't be Heather because we both graduated high school in 88)

Yes Keith Urban. His music has helped me through some of the toughest times in my life. And the fact that he's smokin' hot doesn't hurt either. :lovestruc

My dad had on one of the country music award shows awhile ago and I saw Lady Antebellum performing. I had heard their song "Run to You" on the radio a couple times but didn't know who it was. Well, I finally figured out it was them. They were also performing their new single so I ended up downloading that and bought their first CD...now I am obsessed with it. Soooo good! Preordered their new album from Amazon last night for only $7.99. :thumbsup2

Now that you can just download songs one by one I find myself not really getting into an artist/band but getting into certain songs. When I was in middle school though I knew like every NSYNC song ever made and would order their European CD's off of Amazon b/c they had different songs LOL!

I guess the band I like the most right now is still Hanson. If you haven't heard their latest music you need to because it is awesome!

 oh NSYNC. i had a similar collection...and it's all on my iPod!! i actually just downloaded The Winter Album and the song "U Drive Me Crazy" came on. Hadn't heard it in probably 6+ years, and still knew every word!!

<------------------------see avatar..... yes its been a love affair since college:) and I won't say what album it was that started it all :) i would date myself!

He hasn't done much lately, but I love the sound and singing style of Seal. I can definitely say I'm "really into" his music.:thumbsup2 There's no one else like him, that I've ever heard.

I am not a "one artist" type, but DH is. His all time faves are the Cowboy Junkies and Elvis Costello, and his newest discovery is Keane. DD is stuck on Owl City right now ("Fireflies"). The closest I have come lately to one particular artist is the Glee soundtracks- love them!!

No, not Heather...but I'd sure like to meet her! :teeth:

The Reverend Horton Heat....Rock and rock like rock and roll was meant to be played. I can't stop listening.

By far the band I listen to most is DMB (I know, hard to tell from my board name and avatar). There are only a few songs by them that I don't really like.

.... now I'm all about Jackson Browne.... and there's TONS of stuff I have never even heard of.... I'm enjoying it immensely!

Oh yeah...Jackson Browne has been my absolute favorite for about 30 years.

Just two nights ago my husband and I were driving in the car, and "Doctor, My Eyes" came on. I said something about it being a surprise to me that it was from 1972 because it sounded more like it should be from the later '70s. I also said something like, "You know, I've never known a Jackson Browne fanatic. He's one of those people who seems kind of neutral and the no one has strong opinions about." And now 2 days later you both prove me wrong :lmao:

David Bowie for a while (I even named my dog Ziggy Stardust!)

Duran Duran was my favorite in 7th grade, and I still have my albums, posters, etc. But they are who turned me onto David Bowie, and I became a total fanatic of his. I still have all my old vinyl records, 45's, video tapes, posters, articles from magazines, stickers, and any other memorabilia you can think of. I don't really collect stuff about him anymore other than CD's, but I do watch interviews and read articles about him. And he's the only rock artist that I will pay ludicrous prices to go see. I HAVE to be in the front for him, and even suffered through the mosh pit at his concert where NIN opened for him in 1995 - yuck. His staff even published one of the many posters that I made for his Reality tour on his website. It said something like "Thank you for coming to Texas" :). And he was very appreciative of my requests for a song off that album - I got a personal nod and quiet thank you for requesting "Days".

I do tend to get hooked on artists, but these days I don't usually get hooked on current music. I stick more with stuff that is pre-1980, including classical. I went through a Sergio Mendes/Astrud Gilberto/Herb Alpert phase a while back, and I still listen to it all the time. I collected all the Ultra-Lounge CD's. I have recently been on a Tomita kick, and am still collecting his stuff. Debussy is another one that I would consider a passion.

I wonder what will be next? It's exciting to think about finding someone "new" to discover :).

Yes! Right now I am listening to my current obsession. Wait for it... Hanson! Those boys grew up and make pretty darn good music now. Before you laugh - check them out. You will be very surprised.

You really ought to check out The Pretender record.... it's AMAZING! He's written for others.... for example he wrote the big hit "Take it Easy" for the Eagles.... (Glenn Frye was impatient and asked JB if he could "finish" the song- and he did). I love that you can hear EVERY word..... and he sounds just as good now as he did 40 years ago......... seriously.

Lady Antebellum is my new one too! I'm going to check out Amazon right now!!:goodvibes Need You Now is what got me hooked!

Really? I never would have guessed. :thumbsup2

There is always a dm/dmb/dm&f/dm&tr somewhere nearby, but I've finally gotten away from it being the only thing in my cd player. (my kids are grateful for this ;) )

Probably the last two years I went on a Warren Haynes/Gov't Mule/Allman Brothers/The Dead kick. If WH played, I listened. He's known as the hardest working man in show business. Very talented musician and songwriter.

I go through "phases".. Some of them have been:

Barbara Striesand
Celine Dion
Enya
Alan Jackson
Reba
Vince Gill
strictly musical - often with nature sounds in the background
Toby Keith
Sara Evans
Josh Gorban
---------------------

I still like/listen to all of them, but right now I'm not hung up on any one particular singer and/or type of music..:goodvibes

I tend to go through phases as well. Currently I am in an Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood phase (I know two totally different species).

I also tend to get into one particular song for awhile. Currently I am in love with "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay.
