Do you prune?

We have a pretty short season here in western Mass. and I have always pruned the suckers off my tomatoes. I was told by my grandpa that was the way to get the tomatoes to ripen earlier. What do you think? Myth or reality? What do you do with your tomatoes?
 
I let them grow.
I always figured that it would provide the plant with more energy.
However, our frost date is not until about October 15.
 
Hmmm, never pruned them off. Maybe I'll try it & see what happens. We have a ton of tomato plants that are self seeded from last year. I don't think I've bought plants in a few years. They're like dill just keeps coming back :flower:
