Do you prefer Southwest or Airtran?

I take Airtran about 5 times a year and Southwest about 15. In my opinion Southwest is my favorite. I only fly Airtran because SW does not fly to one of my work destinations (Bahamas).

Every Airtran flight has some sort of seating issue and I am never on time.

I've never flown Southwest because I was always able to fly cheaper on AirTran, that includes paying for bags and seats. Sure, I had flights change times by 30-60 minutes a couple of times, but more often than not the changes worked to my advantage by being able to switch into a better flight for free.

What good is "bags fly free" when the fare is more than AirTran's total including the cost for bags and seats?

I'm very sad to see AirTran going away. And with the competition from AirTran out of the way...I certainly don't see Southwest's fares going down.

Well AirTran has horrible schdule changes...you book an early morning flt and all of a sudden you are leaving late in the evening...a hassle to change...

SWA - very limited schedule changes...fly them all the time and if there are schdule changes are held to a minimum

Fares have gone up but no change fee...which is huge if you have to make a change. Son on a Continental flt HOU - SNA - HOU had to change, 150.00 change charge plus the difference in the fare was huge....he ended up buying a tkt on SWA which was a lot less

SWA no bag fees and great customer service....
