Do you prefer a layover when you fly?

When you take a flight that is 3 plus hours do you prefer a layover? We were talking about this at work and it was pretty evenly split.

For me it doesn't matter. Obviously going straight through you get there faster and you don't have to worry about making your connection, on the other hand though, it is nice to get up a walk around (other than the aisle of a plane) and get out of a cramped space.

I can't think of one flight I've taken in the last 16 years that has not had a layover. For where we fly out of, it's just something we deal with.

Three hours on a plane is my limit, so I prefer the layovers. Get some fresh air, stretch, walk around, use a real restroom, etc. :)

Ugh on layovers in this house. Our youngest is ASD and the thought of getting him out of one plane and into another and if we miss our connection and the schedule is off, etc. etc. etc. Nope, straight shot here if we can.

Nope! We'll pay more (within reason) for a direct flight over a flight with a layover.

A layover is never really the ideal situation because mainly if the first flight is delayed, it could cause you to miss your other flight, happened to me many times. Its not fun.

It's nice to get up and stretch during a layover, but I prefer to go straight through if at all possible. A nonstop flight means you're much more likely to get where you're going on time (no missed connections!) and less likely to have lost/delayed baggage. I've had too many incredibly frustratring lost/delayed baggage situations lately on connecting flights.

I don't like to fly. One take off and landing each way for me, if it is at all possible (and affordable).

We had this conversation but it was regarding much longer flights. Would you prefer a 14 hour Newark - New Dehli India or a split 8 hours to Germany and 8 hours to India with a 4 or 5 hour layover? Ended up, I didn't have a choice, I had to take the layover but I probably would have picked it anyway.

I will always fly non stop if possible. Many of the flights I take don't have non stop flights. Sometimes they cost quite a bit more but, it seems that recently some of the non stop prices were close to those with layovers. While it does feel good to get up and walk around I would much rather get to my destination faster and without any extra take offs and landings which I do not like. :)

Honestly, DF and I don't mind either way. Non-stop is nice, because you don't have to worry (as much) about lost luggage, missing connections, etc. On the other hand, I like layovers to stretch my legs, use the restroom, look around at shops. DF and I are dorks, though, and we like layovers so we can eat at the airport restaurants that we don't have here in Cedar Rapids. We tried Fuddruckers in Detroit last fall, and were pretty impressed. :goodvibes

Living in Chicago I've never HAD to take a layover. For flights over 2 hours I use miles to upgrade when possible, so I get the best of both worlds (comfort and a non-stop flight).

I think the only time I'd consider taking a layover is if taking an 8+ hour trip. For flights that long even upgrading only gets you so far. I did 13 hours non-stop to Seoul in business class once (well...twice really since I flew home too! ;) ) and the last couple of hours was torture, I wanted OFF that plane!!!

I would prefer non stop but don't mind layovers. Have had a couple at Atlanta and it does give you opportunity to people watch, shop and just walk and walk.

In this case I would have taken the layover. I might have tried to stay a day or two in Germany too.

Hate layovers. Better chance of something going wrong!:thumbsup2

I would take the layover in this case. I am a very fidgety person and there is no way I would have been able to be on a flight for 14 hours.

I am taking 2 trips in the next few months, one from Boston to Austin and then another from Boston to L.A. and most of the flights have layovers and are at least $100 cheaper than the flights that are non-stop.

I prefer nonstop. I enjoy travel and I love having a few things to do in the plane, so once I'm settled in, I like to stay that way until I'm at my destination.

I LOVED when Southwest started offering Wi-fi on the plane. I didn't want to get off I was having so much fun NOT WORKING! :thumbsup2
