I don't think the number is unique to Disney, though. More and more restaurants seem to be reducing the number of diners considered "large party".

Someday it's going to be three people...

I have to fervently disagree with you, as a family of 7 that frequently travels and eats out, there is only 1 restaurant here in the springs that adds a gratuity at 6 that I have ever encountered. (family style german restaurant).
For that matter, thats the only restaurant anywhere I can recall adding an auto-grat at 6 that we have been too, and like I said, we travel and eat out alot!
