I know lots of aspects of the new DDE have been hashed out here, but I don't see this one. Do y'all plan to tip above the 18% when the service warrants it? DH and I routinely tip 20%. We'll bring it down to 15% if the service has some serious flaws and 10% if it's totally abysmal, but that rarely happens at WDW. Thus we're going to have to learn to calculate 2% (and I finally had the hang of 20...$2 for every 10) or else get complacent and leave it at 18%, but I think we're probably going to do the add on since we'd tip 20% anywhere else.

I always tipped 20% because it made it easy for me. Just tip back what they took away. Now I'll just tip what is automatically charged to me.

I am ordinarily a 20-25% tipper (unless service is baaaad), but since it will be added in automatically I probably won't leave more than that.

As I have always tipped 20-25% for good service, I will be throwing some additional cash along with the automatic 18% gratuity. I would tip this amount regardless, and I will be getting cash from my dining companion at every meal, since I will carrry the DDE.

For really great service, most definately!!! We tipped extra at LeCellier last September as our waitress was outstanding!!! But if we get a waiter like we did at Captain Jacks, he'll be lucky to get 15% at the most.

We always tipped more but we also will probably just go with the automatic 18% to save the hassle.

Can someone update me on the automatic 18%...I thought this was just for parties of 5-6 and over?

We always tipped (for good service) 20% because it was easy to figure out in our heads. Now we will just do the automatic 18% cause my head hurts if I do to much math on vacation.

I always just tipped what I got in discount so 20%. As far as figuring out the difference I'm thinking you won't have to do too much, the 20% discount will be noted on there somehow most likely a total, then the 20% discount , then the 18% tip then the total. Just subtract the auto grat of 18% from your 20% discount total and that will be what you'd make up. I'll leave it at 18% unless it is really excellent service then I'll just drop an extra $5.-$10 on the table before I leave.

Now the DDE card automatically adds an 18% tip regardless of how many guests, after it discounts your bill the 20%.

I'll just tip the 18% - down from 20 to 25% - unless the service is exemparly. I'm not going to take the time to figure out the amount I want to tip and then subtract the amount that is already included on the ticket.

We feel the same as previous posters - always used to tip 20% by adding back the discounted amount, but will now accept the bill as is and leave the auto 18%. DH is a little miffed in general about this mandatory tip calculation, so as long as it is now a rule he refuses to exceed the 18% requirement. Probably if a meal is particularly memorable, he will leave some additional cash on the table - we'll see.

We usually tip between 20-25%, but I don't like the mandatory thing.
So 18% is what they'll get, unless a server is exceptional.

Usually tip 20 %, but if they are now adding the 18%. thats all they will get.

I am undecided. We usually do 20% but since it has been determined  that 18% is the desired amount......:sad2:

We go in 19 days (not that I am counting ;)) and will decide there what we will do. Depends on the service and how things go too.

Should be interesting

We plan to add on the 2% difference for an even 20% (unless the server is extremely rude or something, but that's doubtful). Calculating the extra 2% is easy enough to do-thank goodness for cell phone calculators!

We will continue to tip 20% for good service. I think two college graduates, plus two college kids, plus one 7th grader can handle the math. :teacher: If not, we can always whip out a couple of cell phones. :upsidedow

I am disappointed that so many here feel the need to penalize a random server, providing good service in the here and now. If you want to protest this undesirable policy, send the message to Disney management.

The mandatory 'tipping' is obviously offending many people, myself included. I intend to leave a note to the effect that if it's mandatory it's not a tip, but a service charge. I will not penalize our server, so I will tip 20% as we normally do for good service.

At the least I will tip a person is 18%. If they do a good job, I will tip more. I use to wait tables and had bills just like everyone else. You wouldn't believe some people, they don't tip much at all. When I worked as a waitress regardless how much I made, I needed to tip out the bartender and bus boy a percent of what my total of sales were. A lot of people don't realize this.
