DO YOU PLAN ON RENEWING?

I'll be 80yo when my contracts expire and I intend to go to Disney for at least 30 or 40 more years ;)
That's so much time in the future. Maybe they'll open a Disney Moon resort where gravity is lower so easier to walk around for a grown up.

We'll be in our 90's when they start to expire, no renewing , but enjoying for as long as we can.

We made the decision not to become snowbirds, so once we're full time New Jerseyans, we definitely will be using our points for at least 6 weeks during Jan and Feb.

Like many others who have already posted, it's quite likely that we'll expire before our contract does. We bought our 300 points at the same time but in two 150-point contracts to make it easier for the kids to divide or dispose of as each one sees fit when the time comes.

We too will be in our 90's. I am hoping to maximize how long we can enjoy our ownership leading up to then.

At one point, about 8 years ago, we owned 1500+ points. I would have, and probably did, swear up and down I would be a DVC lifer. I was the biggest Disney apologist on the planet. Nothing would stop me from being a major DVC point owner.

About three years ago we had a change of heart, for numerous reasons. Most Disney, but some personal.
We sold 21 (?) contracts and all of our points.

Lesson learned was things do change.
To assume you will feel the same 20 years from now is likely not reality.

Original Poster here: Ours expire in 2017. Seems like yesterday when we purchased it. I think my husband would like to check out the possibility of purchasing another contract. We will be in our 50's and he feels it's something we can eventually give to our daughter. But, I feel differently. Need to think about college for our daughter and retirement for us.

Either you have a typo or are confused on the end dates. No DVC expires in 2017. It's still 25+ years until the first DVC resorts expire in 2042.

I will be 67... hoping to still be going to WDW then. I would be interested in an extension if it preserved the value of my DVC and if my kids were interested in taking it over.

If I did not extend my contract when the OKW offer was made to extend your date from 2042 till 2057; why would I buy back in for another 50 years?

No, I'll be dead. Or in my very late 90's.

As much as I enjoy Disney now, I don't know that I will be going when I am 95.

Wait - did you mean the loan is paid off in 2017?

Regardless of our ages in 2042, someone will own the contract and at that point it will (or should) be a financial decision whether to extend or now. For OKW it was a poor choice to do so IMO.

I will be in my 60's so I would go for an extension if they offered it on VWL. I am actually thinking of buying at BLT so that I do have something for retirement.

I doubt it. I will be in my mid 70s when my AKV contract expires. I might add on before then with a newer resort (possibly new WL) but that will be enough Disney for me and my kids. They are welcome to buy their own, but I would never want to burden them with a timeshare anchor, especially with the escalating costs associated with Disney World.

I'll be 82 and no children, so no. Who knows what the future holds, I'll keep it as long as I can physically go. Even if I had to let it go for nothing today, I got my moneys worth. At last count I've had 40 DVC stays since I bought in 1999.

I dunno. We'll be in our 50s, and our daughter will be in college then. I guess we may, especially if we can see grankids on the hgorizon.
