Do you plan on getting specific same-day fast passes?

I know that now you can book a 4th FP right from your phone once you have used up your three. So a good strategy would be to book your three first fast passes early on so you can get your fourth. But this goes against our usual touring strategy. We find if we go at rope drop, we can get a lot done without a lot of waiting and tend to set up our FP's starting around noon.

I'm torn on what to do. The uncertainty of what will be available as a same-day fast pass makes me nervous. We do not stay in the evening as we have little ones so our schedule is kind of tight.

Am i right to think we should just stick with our normal plan? How do people "plan" for same-day fast passes?

We do our fastpasses in the morning, not right away though, usually the first one starting at around 10. Get as much done right away with no fastpass, and by the time we used the 3rd one at noon, we can get our 4th one at like 12:05 or whatever.

We don't plan for any same day FP, that way we aren't disappointed. There's very little availability of the 'big' rides FP on the same day, esp. if you are traveling at a busy time.

We do much like AdamsPrincess said. We set up our first FP+ usually around 10:00-10:30am. We'll do whatever we can before that. Then we'll do 3 FP+ back to back if we can, so we're done our last one around lunch. Then while eating lunch, we grab another one. As to what you can get, depends on time of the year and park you're in. I've gotten some pretty good ones, but not 7DMT or FEA. Pirates, Splash, Big Thunder, Test Track, Soarin (though rare), RnR, TSMM, Kali, EE.

I don't agree with this. Just because the technology has changed in that you can now book a 4th FP on your phone, it has not changed my strategy or touring/planning approach. I still have some hopes of good FPs as a 4th but still plan my day as I have done before, using FP for the busiest part of the mid-day. The addition of getting one on my phone just saves some time in walking to a kiosk, but has not affected how I plan or enjoy the day.

I say don't stress, and keep doing what you've done. Then hope for something good, or enjoy a quick FP on whatever is available when you are ready to book a 4th on your phone.

We usually get to the parks for rope drop, do everything that we can while the lines are short and then start scheduling FP's from lunchtime onward. We make sure that we use our first 3 fastpasses where they will have the most effect (ie: the rides that usually have the longest lines that we most want to do) and then any extras are just a bonus. In these times of obsessive planning, it's quite nice to leave something as a surprise!

If RD is at 9, we book our first FP near the first area we'll be for like the 0950-1050 time slot. At MK in Jan for example we hit Fantasyland at opening, then had FP for 7DMT one day and Tomorrowland Speedway (car obsessed 4 y/o) the next. If you get in line for the FP activity at 1050 and have your next windows from 1055-1155 and 1200-1300 you can get a lot done in an hour before lunch. We were able to add Splash, JC, and Barnstormer as afternoon SDFP I know for sure, and are hoping to follow a similar plan this year.

I think it depends on a lot of variables. The big two would be what kind of crowds you will be dealing with and what rides you are looking to do......also how many people are walking in with multiple magic bands.

I think TP has our day as a 6 or 7... (just bumped up from a 3!) I think after looking at our plan, the only ride I am hoping to get a SDFP for would be Pirates.. which shouldn't be too hard, but we really want it for a specific time so hopefully that isn't an issue. Thanks for the help!

I never boo any FP for the first 60 to 90 minutes of park opening after that I will book 3 almost back to back so if the park opens at 9 my first FP would start at 10;30next one for 11:30 and then 12:30 this leaves a lot of time and you are early enough to get some good one

My DH is not a morning person so usually nothing before 11 and then some days I have them all booked at night right before EMHs start. I base it around our ADRs and if we get 4th FPs some days great if not it won't bother me. I just want to make sure my DH gets to go on the rides that he likes because he is not a disney nut like my DD and I, he spends quite a bit of time hanging out at the resort pool.
