Do you pay for Internet while at WDW?

Just wondering if everyone pays to have an Internet connection at WDW? I think I read here it is $10 a day. I'm trying to decide if I should do this or not. We will be gone for a long time (for us), Sept 3-11. I like to have it on vacation just to be able to check our bank account online and such (and maybe the DIS haha). I'm not really into paying an extra $100 or so though just to use it for a short time....I will be too busy eating cupcakes and taking food pictures to worry with E-mail and surfing! My parents have one of those cards in their laptop that you can connect to the Internet anywhere so as long as they come with us then I should be okay just borrowing that I guess. I dunno...what does everyone else do? I usually stay at places that provide this free.

I don't pay for it. I think it should be FREE!

A suggestion given in a previous thread was to purchase it for a single day during your trip. The $10 lasts for a 24 hour period, thus if you purchased it upon returning from the parks at around 9 one night, then it would be good until 9 the next night, which means if you come back a little earlier the next night, then you can do your checking two days in a row.
Basically, you don't have to purchase the internet for the entire trip, just part of it. You could even do it every other day, or every third day, depending on your internet needs.

I think it should too. On our last week long tip to Disney we stayed at the Residence Inn off site. It wasn't a big frills place but it did include high speed Internet in your room for free (and a wonderful huge breakfast buffet for free every morning). It's funny how the places that you would think would offer less oftentimes give you more than the so called nicer places. Disney is definitely still worth it though! It is going to be so nice not having to leave Disney every night.

That was something that I was actually considering doing, I just didn't know how easy that would be to have it turned on/off. Sounds like if someone has done it though then it must be doable.

Lots of people feel the internet should be free at WDW. That would be nice (it is free for DVC members now), but if we're wishing for free stuff, I'd be after park passes. :rotfl:

I thought about it last year, but honestly, by the time we got back to the room and got the kids ready and in bed and the backpack repacked for the next day, I was too tired to care! There's no way I'd stay offsite to get free internet though!

Can you check your bank stuff over the phone? I do that from work because we aren't allowed to use our internet for anything other than work related things, and they monitor it very closely. Won't need to check the bank if I lose my job.

I don't know if the laptop with the card would work, doesn't there have to be wi-fi available for it to connect to? I'm NOT good at this kind of thing, but we've tried to use ours a few places before that it wasn't able to connect.

No we do not becasue we are now DVC members but last year we did. DH is finishing his MBA and I needed it a for a little worrk (don't flame me I just had to send out an email or 2:rotfl: ) but id I did not NEED it I wouldn't.

If your internet provider has dial-up service, you can use that for the price of the local phone call. Just make sure the number you use is truly a local call. Some of the numbers would make you believe that they are local, but are really considered long distance.

Not sure if the other poster was referring to the same thing - but I have a card for my computer through Verizon, it has it's own phone number (and a bill each month! ) but anywhere that a cellphone would work it can connect to the internet :woohoo:

We wouldn't have any time to use it. We also like being in the Disney bubble and forgetting about life back at home for awhile :)

I tend to connect up maybe three or four times over a 14 day stay, making use of the full 24 hour period by starting the session in the afternoon if we're around the hotel.

I agree it would be nice if it were free though. And faster.

If Disney made it "free" you know it wouldn't be. It would be added into your room bill. This way those that want to use it pay for it, those that like to have a vacation away from their computer don't have an added expense.

I stay at many hotels where the internet is not free.

When my dh goes with us to WDW, he usually pays for a day or two. He likes to get some work done, so he stays behind at the resort, works for 3 or so hours and then meets up with us someplace.
The $10 a day is worth it to us...it means he will go with us even though he isn't there in the parks all day.

I'll be taking my Sprint aircard with my laptop so hopefully that will work to check work emails for DH and myself.

On all of my previous trips, I've just used dial-up through my provider. Next week, my business partner and I will be sharing a room and will have to check our Ebay store on a regular basis, so we'll be paying for internet access. It's either that or stay home--I think I'll be glad to share the cost of that with her!

I have never paid for it and now that it is free for DVC, I will continue to not pay for it (but I will use it now).

We were there for 9 days this past March/April and we paid the $10 for 24 hour consecutive time...DH needed to stay in touch with work and I had to post a live dining report! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

They supplied the ethernet cord, it was super easy to connect and very very fast

We take our laptop with air card and usually I have to go outside the room to get a good enough signal. I only have paid for it once out of all our trips and that was for work and my company ended up reimbursing me.
