I do check certain items. I find that grapes from California are better than those from other countries. Blueberries are best grown in a colder climate. I buy organic bananas simply because they last longer.

I switched olive oils after seeing a video about sources. My former brand lists multiple countries, which means they likely add other kinds of oil and/or lower quality grades of olive oil. So now I'm using single-source, from California.

It may blow your mind to learn that your Swedish Fish don't exactly come from the crisp waters of Storsjön.

For sure. It's been a gradual thing, but a priority now.

We buy half a pig and half a cow each summer from a local 4H kid. We buy chicken from a local processing facility. We belong to a farm share that's local and freeze a lot. We pick local strawberries and blueberries each summer and fill our freezer; same with apples and peaches. I have raspberries and zucchini and salad greens growing in my yard.

There are only a few staples that aren't local; plus coffee and tea. So much garbage in food these days.

I think we can thank Alice Waters for Americans paying more attention to where meat and produce came from. She was the one who started featuring supplier names on menus.

Sometimes. I eat local produce, meat, and other products when I can and have access. This doesn't happen year round due to my location, but when I can, I do.

Otherwise, I don't really pay attention on the day to day.

Fish, ALWAYS!

Meat, most of the time. I have no idea about Kroger ground round. But I’m very particular about chicken. Miller Amish Chicken is the only thing I buy.

Produce, sometimes. I prefer to buy Michigan blueberries, apples, and cherries.

Everything else, rarely. Unless I’m doing a certain cuisine and need an ingredient. Then I will look for an authentic product.

I always have. It's just something I've always found interesting. Over the years of doing so, especially with produce, it makes it easier to pick out the ones I like at the grocery store. For instance, in my opinion, Costa Rican bananas are generally better than Guatemalan bananas. Canadian tomatoes are generally better than Mexican tomatoes, etc.
You're options are limited with bananas, although my son had a banana tree in his back yard in Los Angeles. Being in California tomatoes are such usually are local, same with strawberries.

No, I literally don't care where it came from as long as it's good.

Although I do appreciate how much of the produce I eat is grown within a few hours drive from where I live.

Yes. I never buy meat from Smithfield and I try not to buy produce or goods from Mexico or China since we grow a lot here. I'm sure I've bought avacados and bananas from Mexico but I try not to.
