We are expecting rain on our Sept 14th Dream cruise. Not sure what to pack. Umbrellas? Rain boots? Rain jackets? Ponchos? It's gonna be super hot all week...so I'm trying to pack accurately. Thanks.

We packed some small fold up umbrellas because we were going to Cartagena during rainy season and doing a city tour. Most of our other stops were beach excursions so no rain gear needed, already wet anyway.

We never have packed for rain, other than those little fold-up ponchos. We went through quite a bit of rain on one of our trips, but seriously didn't get wet... we were able to stay inside for everything. They even moved the deck parties inside.

We always pack at least ponchos. Tried the umbrella route once. Just too many chances of poking someone's eye out, and carrying one cuts the number of hands you have available for taking pictures and other things. Now, that's for most cruises.

For Alaska, we pack rain gear (pants & hooded jacket).

We are expecting rain???!!!!!
Yikes! I was not aware. Are you looking at Bahamas weather? Where should I be looking.

When are you leaving? I am leaving on Thursday and cannot stand myself any longer LOL Leaving my family at home and going with my mom! Listening to Disney music at my desk right now!

Thanks!

I've been following the weather in the Bahamas. We leave Saturday, my hubby works until Friday and my son has a soccer game Saturday am he doesn't wanna miss. I think I'm gonna grab a couple of ponchos from target. Just in case.

I've never packed for rain other than Alaska. Maybe I should. :confused3 If I do, it will only be light ponchos that don't take up space.

Pack for the rain! I always do and then don't see any, so don't want to jinx myself and have poncho and umbrella packed but haven't been watching the forecast.
GGGRRRR.. See you onboard!

Unless you are doing a tour of some type, I wouldn't pack for rain for a Bahamian cruise. It will be most likely pop up storms in the afternoon that will go away. You will probably be in a swimsuit when you are on CC and when you are on the ship you can go inside if it rains.

I don't go on any cruise or land trip without my packable rain jacket and packable bucket hat. The jacket packs into its own pocket and hat folds into small triangle. Takes up next to no space in the bags.

I always pack clothes that don't become inappropriate in a rain storm...lol! So like a pair of jean shorts and a black tank top, that way we are always "prepared". I also bring along my North Face rain shell. It blocks wind and rain and comes in handy on brisk nights walking the deck too. It packs small. I also pack a pair of sandals that are comfy and can get wet and have good traction.

We actually debarked in a massive rain storm in San Diego...What I wish I had were bags to cover our luggage. They were soaked! I had umbrellas with me and they just wasted weight and space.

like florida, it will likely rain some part of each day. usually on the ship, they can avoid anything major, most we've seen is a few sprinkles and maybe once a downpour on board. usually resolves quickly. but for 90% of the year, from florida south, it will say "chance of rain" on most weather reports. we usually have ponchos because we've come from the parks. we pack as we would for florida.

Also on this cruise... I'm seeing high 87-90 deg and 40-50% chance of afternoon scattered thunderstorms for Nassau and Castaway Cay. I'm assuming this is the same kind of deal as for WDW when you get that afternoon thunderstorm that lasts maybe 20-30 minutes? not a complete washout of an afternoon?

When we have taken a DCL or WDW vacation we have never taken rain gear along. When in WDW we just ran into the closest shop and purchased a poncho. When on a DCL cruise we just found shelter on the ship until it ended or under an umbrella when we had the one and only time of a very short but heavy rain while on Castaway Cay. We have been lucky, five CC visits only one rain event. If it had last longer we would probably just get wet, either by wandering the island or from going back to the ship and change into something dry.

When I was in Nassau last year that was the case. The sand on the beach dries out pretty quickly. We were a bit concerned as the little one had a broken arm but we basically wrapped her half-cast in a towel and poncho and asked the towel cabana attendants (had a day pass at the Colonial Hilton Nassau) if she could hide there for the 5-10 minutes the rain was going. Didn't rain the rest of the time there.

Bathing suit and a hairbrush...it's the tropics and rainy season will bring quick passing showers then the sun shines again....anything more extreme then typical rainy season weather will have lightning strikes So you will need shelter...otherwise don't be afraid of a little rain! Have fun and enjoy!

I was on a couple of Disney cruise where it rained during a port day and the had boxes of ponchos from the parks at the lobby before the exit ramps and Crew Members handing them out they had both adult and child ones. Not sure if they still do that though. Also they were free they weren't selling them like they do with bottles of water as you are leaving the ship.

Just an umbrella, rolled up in its own wee sack, what we would call a cagoule and maybe a disposable poncho just in case but that is it, don't bother with anything else!
