Do you own DVC along with other timeshare products?

I'm curious as to how many posters own DVC plus other timeshare products/systems.

When we first bought DVC in early 2002, we didn't own any type of timeshare/vacation ownership product. I was scared to death to join because of the bad rap timeshares have always had through the years.

After being a member of DVC for a few years, we got braver and branched out by buying a Marriott Vacation Club (resale) and then a few years after feeling safe with that Marriott purchase, we bought an every other year week at a well managed resort in the North Carolina mountains.

We're finding that we still very much enjoy our DVC stays in Orlando, but we also enjoy staying at Marriott Vacation Club resorts in Orlando and really like Sheraton's resorts in Orlando, too. So we typically do at least three trips a year to Orlando and stay with those three brands.

Anybody else on the boards branched out (or got brave enough) after your initial DVC purchase to buy something else to go along with DVC points? Or did you do it in reverse, owned something else first and then bought DVC points?

I own a two bedroom at Marriott's Grande Vista in Orlando...
All I can say...it sure isn't DVC....

If I had to do it over again.....I would not of bought it.....

We don't own another timeshare, but we do own a condo in Maui that we have in a vaction rental program. Having our own unit means that we can be very flexible and head to Maui on whatever dates we find have the cheapest airfare. It is a good balance, with lots of advance palnning needed for DVC and not so much for a trip to Maui.

Also becuase we essentially have up to 52 week each year, we have also traded a week in Maui for DVC points, without having to give up our Maui time. -- Suzanne

DVC was the first timeshare we ever looked at - but became the 5th product we purchased.
  • Sept 1998 Saw DVC @ BWV but turned it down.
  • July 2000 Purchased Worldmark, a points system, with lots of locations in the Western States; exchanges through both RCI and II; plenty of flexibility; reasonable dues.
  • July 2001 Purchased 1BR EOY fixed summer week at nearby SoCAL coastal property. Great trader in RCI, day-use of resort amenities, 2-for-1 exchanges, etc.
  • Late 2001 Purchased inexpensive trader in South Africa. A somewhat quirky thing to own -- perhaps not recommended for novice timeshare owners -- with low entry point, low dues and surprising exchanges.
  • Aug 2003 Purchased a half-share at a local ranch; added the opposing half-share in 2006. Until this year, the ranch offered free day use of ranch amenities including golf, horseback riding, hot springs pool (etc) for its dues-paying owners. Flexible reservation system allows multi-unit booking, trades through II, and offers other unique perks.
  • May 2004 Our first DVC purchase with add-ons following.
We use DVC mostly for work-related conferences at the Dolphin/Swan/Yacht facilities. Our first DVC WDW vacation is booked for December in a Treehouse! Looking forward to it!

We own a Starwood week Colorado ski week and a Bluegreen Fixed week in N. Michigan along with our DVC points(SSR/VB).

We use our DVC points for our Orlando, Vero Beach trips.(2-3 times per yr).

We are really forward to our BG week, as we love N. Michigan and it was such a bargin for the initial payment and the MF's compared to what a week long rental is during summer!:scared1:

DVC was our 1st TS purchase then did an add on right away. Then when the economy hit hard and I added on 2 "trader" weeks in NC and Wyndham pts. Turned out awesome for us because I don't think I could stay in another hotel room :scared1:for vacation:banana:

I just need more vacation time now!!!

We own DVC as well as 1 week at Sheraton Vistana. We love it there; although I loved it much more before Sheraton bought it. But, it's still a top quality resort.

we own a two bed lock off at Westgate Smoky mountain resort in Gatlinburg Tn.

We stayed there a year ago on an exchange. Nice rooms and a big bonus to have that indoor waterpark.

We bought an ARI week every other year right after we got married fourteen years ago. (They have two resorts in Austria.) We will likely never actually do anything other than exchange it. It's a floating week and they always select the worst weeks for our exchanges! Nevertheless we do get some surprisingly good exchanges! The Royal Resorts in Cancun, a boutique hotel in New Orleans, even the Westin in Maui in January! So for the initial $7K it cost us, we've been very pleased.

We bought 150 pts at BWV resale a few years ago and recently added 250 pts at BLT. I can see us doing more add-ons in the future especially if they build more resorts with great locations like BWV and BLT! Also possibly interested in VGC in the future, maybe Hawaii. Maybe interested in Marriott too. Don't see myself ever trading our DVC weeks!

We owned a week at Marriott's Royal Palms (at Orlando Marriott World Center), when we first looked into DVC and purchased it. We used the DVC for vacation stays at Disney, and usually traded the Marriott week for points for airfare, etc. But when we split up 4 years later, he got the Marriott timeshare, and I got DVC!!
