I have been known to start humming the theme from "It's A Small World" when my dividend check comes.::yes::

I've some Disney stock and I have other stocks paying 3-6 percent yield. Disney only 1.1 yield.

OP here (again). I own Disney stock for fanatic, not financial reasons. Such as

Owning Disney stock means when you pay more for one night at Aulani than you paid for your first car (admittedly a few years ago) you shake your head and are thankful to be a stockholder.

I bought a share for each of my kids as a Christmas gift one year when they were little. They got a framed share certificate. They loved it!!

I purchased my shares back in 1987. It has split several times, 2 for 1, then 3 for one, then ?? I've lost track. My dividend checks have gone from $1.80 a quarter to $64, enough for a nice dinner out.

I did the same - though I think mine was 1988, then sold it all - in 2007 maybe...2006? I was consolidating a bunch of accounts. But basically I'd gotten the run and the splits.

I bought it again early last year, so have gotten another pretty good run out of it.

And I've done the same with other stocks that have paid much higher dividends. If this is what you want there is nothing wrong with it.

I have 150 shares. I bought 50 shares years ago, just before the 3 to 1 stock split.

Of course. My "conservative" mutual funds in my work 401k are up 34% over the past 12 months, so have done much better than Disney stock.

I started with 10 Disney shares outside an IRA, that's 120 shares now. DW has 500 shares in her IRA.

Own it. Don't see any dividends, though. They go right back into stock purchases (automatic DRIP).

I don't own it, but I bought some for my grandma around the time FB was about to go public (I was initially going to buy her FB, but then decided to do Disney). At the time I think it was around $46-$47. She has made $1,400 off of it since. Not a fortune, but much better than $0!

I own Disney stock and buy disney stock every other week as part of our savings plan w/sharebuilder.

Disney has a direct stock purchase plan so you can forgo the agent and purchase that way. Saves the fees.

I convinced my DH to get our Disney stock when it was tanking for some reason about 5/6 years ago. $17.50 was the going rate. Now it's usually around $65/share, so I'm kicking myself for not buying more!

It has changed my perspective on things. When I see Disney doing something well, I'm really proud of them, when I see things could be done better, I make suggestions, and when things are going really well, I am happy I own my stock. I really feel like I'm part of the company. It's really fun! :yay:

Yes, bought it a few years back when it hit rock bottom at about $16/share. Great investment!

I own 1 share a friend bought me for a bday gift a few years ago when it was around $30-35 a share. He bought it through one share and had them frame it. Love it! Though it's sitting in a closet. Lol... Sooo wish I had bought a ton of shares when it tanked in the bad economy. Instead I bought a house. Which I thought was at the lowest point at the time. But now my house is still worth less than paid. I might have been better to invest it in disney stock at the time! Lol..

I agree about it changing perspective. I see crowds as a good thing and even rainy, cold weather (which I've had too much of during February vacations) makes me think it means people will be in the gift shops more. :thumbsup2

Did anyone notice this update?

Next year, the Walt Disney Co. is going to increase their amount of stock buybacks by almost double. According to Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo, the company has been spending about $4 billion on repurchasing their shares; in 2014, that amount will increase to $6-8 billion. He said the action is the result of the company is feeling confident about upcoming movie releases. After Rasulo's remarks, the price of Disney shares went up 2.5 percent to $65.57.
