Do you own a Disney Poncho?

I posted a similar poll over on the Disneyland board, but I thought it would be fun to get WDW responses as well.

I was at Disneyland on the 14th when it rained for about 5 or 6 hours straight. We along with about 1/2 or 2/3 of the park visitors that day broke down and bought ponchos. I'm sure glad we did as most of the people who were wearing jackets were soaked through. It made it really fun to go on Grizzly River Run and Splash Mountain.

When I was in WDW in May, it rained almost every afternoon, but I never bought the poncho (although a lot of others did). I'm just wondering how many of you also own a Mickey or Disney poncho.

Bought the ponchos at Walmart but bought a Mickey umbrella.

Are you kidding? We have had some of our ponchos for 5 years. I like to collect them when they change designs. We carry 5 of them at all times in the backpack. Three for us, one for the ECV, and one to sit on. Disney ponchos are so much sturdier then those cheap ones and they replace them free if you get a rip in one.

I think I'm up to 5. Hate getting caught in the rain.

No, but we do have a couple we bought at Sea World. The last couple of trips have been in October and we haven't had any rain or either trip.

Its funny you ask because there is a story behind ours.

I checked the weather before we left for the December trip and it showed rain only for the night we left to go down, the rest of the weekend was sunny. Soooo.. I opted not go to wal mart and buy their .88 ponchos, I just don't have the time, and I don't need them, or so I thought.

Well, the weatherbug was wrong, it rained all weekend. My husband kept giving me the evil eye....That You should have went to WalMart look! We broke down and bought 4 of them, after walking around 1/2 the day trying to stay dry under coverings....as soon as we put them on, the dizzle/light rain stoped, and never rained again. Going down this weekend, the weather bug says sunny, but those babies are going with anyway !!!!

Of course, poncho's are in this season!

We tried the $ store, they lasted barely 2 days in constant June rain...

The yellow ones lasted thru several trips so far, with the exception of my DS's (his side snap ripped - but received a complimentary white one @ MGM).

I think we have 12. We carry 5 at a time but always have the rest back at the room. For what we have no idea! LOL!

Where do you get these and how much are they? Do they take up a lot of room?? I'm so worried it's going to rain! We're going Feb 10-13.

our first trip was this past Septemer (hurricane season at worst)...

We were very good and bought a few cheapy ponchos from the Dollar Store to take with us...except they were in the room (nicely packed in our suitcases) when we got caught in the rain...so we had to get Disney ones! (like I'm complaining! just another souvenir I completely forgot about until just now!)

Bought the cheap ones from Target, and didn't use them for two trips, on the third trip rain chance was 30% and it poured! The cheapies didn't hold up so we bought the Disney ones(clear) and we have used them several times since. BTW...we have 4

Got caught in AK in pouring rain, not really much cover, so had no choice but to purchase. They are very nice, khaki with AK logo on them. Decent quality.

NOW, have we brought them with us on other trips? NO. WHY? because they are nice and heavy and when wet a pain to dry in your hotel room. So we carry the 2/$1 ones from the dollar store. If we need to wear them we throw out each day and start new. No ponchos hanging all over bathroom trying to dry out.

They are cheap and we only plan to wear them one day, then toss. Put some fresh ones in the backpack the next day. Most dollar stores sell in 2packs (we like the yellow and blue one )so we are talking a couple bucks a day while we are there. If we don't use...we keep in our trunk for emergencies.

We got our 4 for free! We were on the Disney Magic and it was raining when we docked at Castaway Cay so they gave everyone a Disney poncho as they left the ship. The sun came out a few hours later!

A few years ago on a very rainy March trip, we all bought them (I think there were 7 of us traveling at that time). When we split up, my fiance's father said when we needed to find him, he'd be the one in the yellow poncho with Mickey on the back It's still the running joke in the family.

I have two adult yellow Mickey ponchos from about 8 years ago. That was way back when my DH went with me to WDW. Now that I have had 6 annual solo vacations to WDW, I always bring both of them with me. They might as well be *doing something* while inside my luggage. I line the bottom of the luggage with one of them for weather proofing, and then cover the top of my clothes before I finally zip up the luggage. One year from *THIS* week, my DH is going to spend part of my vacation with me, and the other part he will be home watching our two cats.

We will most likely purchase the Disney one's the next time we get caught in the rain. I hated the cheapies, it was like being wrapped in Saran Wrap

A CM told me a funny story last month on why WDW changed from yellow to clear ponchos.
She said that when it rained, there was a sea of yellow at the parks and children would get turned around and start following the yellow poncho, thinking it was their parent. So they made all the ponchos clear. It's probably Disney lore but interesting.
The only ponchos we have are the Mr PH yellow poncho.

I had Disney ones but I guess I didn't dry them well enough and they got moldy. Yuck
Now I own about 10 Walmart ones. They are a little longer,so I actually like those better. (or maybe I shrunk??)

No way! I wouldn't be caught dead wearing one of those ponchoes, or even any kind of poncho. I live in Portland, Oregon and it rains here everyday. No one even uses an umbrella when it rains. I'm used to the rain and ponchoes are ugly anyway.

We have several! We bought our first 3 on our first trip Sept 1998. Then we bought more on our next trip because of course we always leave them in the room thinking it won't rain today, yeah, right.

Then we bought a set at Disneyland Paris.

I believe we have 3 sets. I did have to throw some away from last year due to storing them without letting them dry completely. Yucky, musty smell. So make sure you dry them good.

I have one clear one that I had to buy DH last year because I forgot to pack his. I'd love to have 4 clear ones but only if I forget my yellow ones in the room!

We have about 8 or so. Half from the AK, half the standard yellow issue.
